(No refund policy // Not (quite) understanding)
I have been wanting to take barbell workouts more seriously this year as the past year Iāve just been playing around with the barbell and weights. Iāve always wanted to get a form check, go to classes, have supports that will inspire me to squat/lift moreā¦.. after checking out Canvas I thought they were a great bunch of peopleā¦. I was really excited to start my journey with them.
I messaged them and instantly transferred $35 for a trial class without a shadow of a doubt that I will definitely grow with canvas and that I will like this venue and hoping that with the barbell club and feeling comfortable after I will join their CrossFit classes.
I have initially scheduled a class on a Wednesday however on Tuesday my manager scheduled a meeting on Thursday which I had to reschedule my Wednesday trial as I had to prepare and this is my first ever meeting. p.s. I just joined the workforce 6 months ago and it is inevitably hard to reject a meetingā¦.. so I rescheduled to Saturday which they initially agreed then informed me that they canāt do it as they have some stuff going onā¦..
So I rescheduled to following Saturday as Wednesday was a meeting eveningā¦.. but as soon as the Wednesday evening got cancelled I asked to shift to Wednesday as I way prefer to workout during weekday after work and I have been wanting to try canvas for a while now so why wouldnāt I shift earlier to trialā¦.. (at this point they informed me itās my last change)
On the similar week Monday, my HQ decides that the meeting shall be on Wednesday again, at 8:30pm. I texted Canvas saying that I understand that was my last change and would like a refund, however I got declined. They mentioned they have a no refund policy.
While all of these measures of my meetings were out of my control area especially being new to the company and workforce, would I have been better if I was 1 year into my job- yes. I would have asked to reschedule these meetings and attended canvas. However, would I ever attempt to trial at canvas again given their strict āno refundā even a valid reason- no I will not.
All of my reasons to Canvas were valid and simply not having my refund of trial is truly disappointing in a gym that I used to really want to be a part in. What is even more disappointing to me is that (starting) work is stressful and hard, and having a gym not understand the initial starting periods and not being able to cancel meetings is tremendously heartbreakingā¦.
Thanks to all readers who have made it this far- also, all of my request to change were more than 24 hours prior the class⦠except for the first time which I was informed of the meeting 4hrs-5hrs before classā¦.
Itās so saddening because I was looking forward to join Canvas and itās community⦠I was always afraid of CrossFit too, I thought Canvas would be the place I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorking out at Canvas is always fun and enjoyable. They dont make wods easy, but they have some of the best coaches I have come across that encourages you through the wods. From Weightlifting classes with KangYin, he is super fast in detecting what I need to work on, what drills I need to improve my movement and most impressively, he remembers each of the members that he coaches including me, what we need to work on and where we stopped at the previous session. There is also a very wide scope of classes other than Weightlifting, like Crossfit, Gymnastics and Structure class. That also has amazing coaches, like Zaf, Pauline, Beth and Joyce. Zaf (Gymnastics/Crossfit) and Pauline (Structure) are both very dedicated to how movement makes us feel, the muscles we should be engaging and constantly explore new ways for us to understand and engage the right muscles in each movement. Beth & Joyce (Crossfit) are always super encouraging, and quick to tell if I am not my usual standard, like waking up with tighter hips and ankle and gives drills to warm me up and prepare my body better for the Wod.
I think over the past 2 years, I have learnt so much and improved on many aspects with Canvas and I truly have the coaches to thank. I truly enjoy the mixture of classes that I can get to experience and thank you for having such an amazing group of coaches. They...
