Ang Mo Kio-Bishan Park I
The stretch of greenery that you see when you walk or drive along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 (from Bishan Road side to Upper Thomson Rd was previously a rural area with clusters of attap/zinc roof wooden houses. Minor farming activities were a common thing. This slump area was later transformed into what we call Ang Mo Kio-Bishan Park I and II.
Park II is bounded by Marymount Rd, Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, Upper Thomson Rd and Sin Ming Avenue.
Park I (about 150+ acres) is bounded by Bishan Rd, Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, Marymount Rd and Bishan Street 22.
A 3 km concrete canal (Kallang River) cuts across the parks (along the Bishan Estate side) from the Lower Peirce Reservoir.
Under the PUB (Public Utitlies Board)’s Active Beautiful & Clean Water Program the concrete canal was demolished and in place of planted with wildflowers/plants. Unless you are the residents there really you may not know of the existence of the canal until after a heavy downpour.
The partially undulating terrain parks are indeed a lush of greenery. You find pond garden, river plains, fenced up enclosure for dogs, McDonald outlet, restaurant, spa saloon. refreshment station, walking running paths all over the park.
Lots of recreational activities take place here each day. You see more visitors over weekends or holidays. It is also a popular place for photography enthusiasts. Indeed very suitable to hold big functions here because of the huge open space.
Public transport is not an issue. Buses ply along the roads above mentioned. For food hunters a hawker centre is just across Ang Mo Kio Ave 1...

Spanning over 60 hectares, the park is a great example of how nature can be integrated seamlessly into city life. Its most striking feature is the naturalized Kallang River that meanders through the park — a former concrete canal that has been transformed into a scenic, winding waterway lined with wild grasses and stone banks, providing a tranquil backdrop for any visit.
The park is a haven for a wide range of activities. It features dedicated cycling and jogging paths, wide lawns perfect for picnics or playing catch, and even outdoor fitness areas. Families will appreciate the multiple playgrounds and water features, while pet owners are often seen walking their dogs or relaxing at dog-friendly cafés like Grub near Carpark A. The overall atmosphere is very community-focused, making it a common gathering place on weekends.

Read moreBishan Park has changed from its old and dilapidated yesterday days into what it is now. I happened to work in the design industry and it is great knowing that the government awarded Atelier Dreiseitl, an award winning designer for the aesthetical and bio-engineering design of the park.
There are actually 2 parks seperated by the road and it is a popular spot with resident for jogging, cycling, the pets with a dog run area, dine and wine and also large scale open air events that includes concerts (kudos to National Parks Board), fun fairs and regular exercise by the elderly.
The park is patrolled by staff on buggies is also a lot cleaner than before. Children and adults can walk into the meandering river and there are plenty of fishes in it. There has also been sightings of otters which was a rather interesting sight.
There is now a salon, spa, restaurant, mac donalds and also skating area which injects life into the park with commercial activities.
Parking is not a problem with the numerous carparks scattered at different parts of the park. The park is extremely long and taking walks, especially after the rain is very relaxing with the cool air and breeze.
