This is a review of the Deluxe Queen Room. Hotel 81 Tristar is a small hotel located in the Geylang area. This is one of the best hotels I've stayed in Singapore given the value and facilities. Upon arrival at the hotel, I went to the reception area to check in with the staff. The check in was very fast, it only took less than 3 mins as I booked through an app. 👍 ROOM: The room was neat and tidy when I entered, it is was pretty spacious for the price and the design was nice. The air con is good and can be cold at times. There are 4 charging ports around the room for those who need them. ✅ SERVICES: The WiFi worked great on both mobile and laptops and the TV channels were only local channels. The hotel staff were prompt in replies when you call using the room telephone even past midnight when I requested some coffee packets and they were fast in delivering to my room. (Much thanks and compliments 🌟) The check out timing is at 11 am. COMFORT: The bed felt comfortable and I had a great night sleeping here. The shower was good, it can be hot instantly but the best part of the room in my opinion is the bathtub. When I was staying here, there were no noise pollution from the rooms around me, it was very quiet 👍 AMENITIES: There is a mini fridge in the room that works well, but there are no safes to store your items. Basic complimentary amenities are provided and the shower has a all in one shampoo + bodywash dispenser. đŸ§Œ FACILITIES: So here's one of the great things about this hotel. There is a swimming pool located at the 3rd floor which is open to everyone from 7.30am to 9pm which makes it one of the reasons why this is one of the best budget hotels I've stayed in as I've not been to any others that have an open pool đŸŠâ€â™‚ïž OTHER: In terms of accessibility, it's about a 10-minute walk from the nearest MRT station and there are a few bus stops nearby. There are also plenty of food stalls and convenient stores around. 🙂 OVERALL: I enjoyed my stay here and I'm very happy with the fantastic services that the hotel offered. Thank you for the accommodation, I will definitely book this hotel again in the future and would recommend it to fellow travellers. 👍

Hotel is located conveniently close to Paya Lebar MRT and Paya Lebar Square. The hawker center is also right beside along with a market. Location aside, you get what you pay for. It is a budget hotel. The room is surprisingly spacious but does need some renovation. There are black mould on the bathroom ceiling and also clear water damage on part of ceiling in the room . That aside, the bed, air conditioning, tv and kettle are fine. The mini fridge kinda keep things cool (not cold). The internet isn't the greatest. I have to tether to my cellphone in the evening when everyone is back at the hotel. It works fine between 10am-3pm. Folks from North America who are used to the 3 star hotel might not find this place as appealing. If you are looking for a cheap place to rest of the night after a long day of walk and play, it ain't too bad.

I would be happy to write a review for this hotel that offers a great value for money with a big room, 24-hour halal food, and conveniently located just a few steps from the lobby. I recently stayed at this hotel and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The family room was incredibly spacious, 1 king bed 1 single bed 1 sofa bed and 1 sofa theres a bathtub too all that for $155 per night with plenty of room to move around and spread out. The bed was comfortable and provided a great night's sleep. The room was also equipped with all the necessary amenities, such as a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, and a kettle for making tea or coffee. **Those with small children advisable to bring along floats if you want to enjoy the pool.

We had an okay stay here during our July trip to Singapore. Main complaint = bad service and filth. PROS:

  1. The location is pretty good. It takes less than 10 minutes to get to Paya Lebar MRT station and the PLQ mall. There are tons of food options around the area, and there’s even a convenience store by the entrance of the hotel.
  2. The room we had was pretty spacious. We had lots of space to mobilize easily and open our luggage.

CONS:

  1. The service is not very good here. I have multiple experiences to support my argument. FIRST, the moment we arrived at the hotel, we were not greeted at all by the receptionist (we greeted him, and there was no response) who seemed Asian and a bit old, with a frowny, annoying face. The first thing he said was, “All passports (in a rude, commanding intonation).” No good morning, no “how are you doing?”. At first I thought, oh, he must be tired since it was midnight and a graveyard shift. But I realized that this should NOT be an excuse. In the tons of hotels we’ve stayed at in the past, even at midnight, we are always greeted. It’s basic customer service. It wouldn’t hurt to say good morning or SMILE at least. SECOND, we specifically asked for our room to be cleaned and for the bedsheets, towels, etc. to be replaced (we hung the tag on the doorknob). However, when we came back, it was not cleaned at all. Nothing was replaced or changed. We called the front desk afterwards to clean our room. They did not apologize at all for their shortcoming, and all they said was, “okay we will send housekeeping [end of call].” It took about 1.5 hours for them to arrive. However, the housekeeping staff who helped us throughout our stay was the one polite staff in this entire hotel. This staff helped us with our requests, and was very helpful. THIRD, we kinda felt like ghosts throughout our stay. Whenever we entered or exited, the front desk staff just continued gossiping and chatting while staring at their computers, completely ignoring us. When we checked out, they did not thank us for staying with them. Maybe it was a certain batch of staff? Idk.
  2. There were some large brown spots of dirt on the bathtub. It looked like it wasn’t cleaned for a while. It was kinda disgusting, as it looked like it could possibly beđŸ’©.
  3. There were inconsiderate guests shouting and yelling at the hallway at night, making it quite difficult to relax/sleep.

Hmmm, mainly, it seems like Hotel 81 Tristar has a problem with a certain batch of front desk staff. Consider training these guys to at least have some basic customer service skills. This hotel has potential due its pros, but consider solving your cons. Would’ve wanted to stay here again especially due to its location, but the cons made us not want to...

If you have modest standards and expectations then this will do, especially if just for a one or two night stay. Otherwise you should think about elsewhere.|This is an old establishment (and if I’m wrong then it very much looks old) away from the City Centre and is a budget rate that attracts many in an otherwise expensive city but you get what you pay for here.|Having said that I didn’t have a problem here with a one night stay being a 5 pm arrival and a 6am departure.|Arrived from Changi airport T3 by train to nearby Paya Labar station which took about one hour all up included some wait time, change train at Tanah Merah station and short walk from station to Hotel. Had large wheeled luggage and small check in bag and found it workable for this type of transfer. However
.if you’re a bit elderly or incapacitated, it’s raining or that hot Singapore sun is beating down on a humid day you may need to adjust. I took a taxi back the next morning as Grab was too slow to respond paying SGD $24 all up which the Hotel phoned on a moments notice and that took around 30 minutes all up but was early morning with a prompt taxi arrival after phone call and no traffic.|Hotel is in a good area for food options which was a “great local food”experience at a budget price. The options for having a drink were very limited and not so appealing. This appears to be a bit of a Muslim / Indian dominated area and is something that appealed to me providing a local people experience to a western tourist.|Good bus transport options towards the City along Geylang Rd and you return by bus along Sims Ave, very doable and cheap.|Staff were helpful but don’t have anyone to specially mention like the many other Reviewers for this Hotel, if you know what I mean.|Pool looked ok but I didn’t use it. Room was very basic and but functional and good size. Has cold water drinking tap installed in bathroom. Didn’t think the cleaning was the best and could do with a good spring clean but more to the point, has probably already reached its use by date and needs a major renovation.|All in all, it’s a budget priced hotel with a location that would appeal to the more active, adventurous type who want a local cultural experience located out of the City.|I would return...
