Located on Mountbatten Road, Singapore, Katong Shopping center is a shopping mall that began operation in 1973 and has consistently withstand the test of times. The unique architectural design of the complex displays an old flame that has managed to retain its vibrancy amidst intense pressures from other developing malls and shopping centers in the southeastern part of Singapore.

Positioned at the crossroads of Mountbatten Road, Haig Road, renowned Katong market and Amber Road, the shopping center is surrounded by lots of other amenities that will give you the ultimate shopping experience in Singapore.

Katong Shopping center not only prides itself in its rich historical heritage but also the freedom that it has always accorded shoppers. The shopping center was the first mall in Singapore to have air-conditioned rooms. Having been in operation for so many years, the complex is well positioned to deliver the best shopping experience that you will truly enjoy. It incorporates various shops that cater for day-to-day needs as well other services.

Apart from just the historical heritage of Katong area, the shopping complex is quite easily accessible via several points due to its close proximity to Dakota MRT Station (CC8), Eunos MRT Station (EW7) and Paya Lebar MRT Station (CC9/EW8). Besides, it is also near several bus stops, making it very convenient for shoppers to visit. By bus, you can alight along Mountbatten Road, from where the shopping center is clearly visible.

Katong Shopping center is a premier shopping complex that has been able to stand the test of time with its impeccable architectural design. It offers a variety of retail and services mix that caters for the entire family shopping. The shopping center is primarily used for Other Retail rent and sale. It hosts several shops and offices that you can visit for a wide selection of various products and services. The complex also houses employment agencies, tailoring, printing services, opticians, cosmetic shops among others.

You can also check in at Katong Shopping center for delicious Chicken Rice at lunch time. And, since there is a variety of eateries situated in the complex, you can as well take a walk around to sample delicacies from other outlets like, Katom Gourmet Food Center, Food With Benefits among others. Even if you may need a domestic helper or maid, there are several agencies located at the shopping center that you can visit.

The shopping complex also houses various spots where youngsters can enjoy their times in internet cafes. For fun lovers, there is also the Teo Heng KTV, which is one of the best karaoke joints in the area. The complex also comprises Feng Shui masters and exorcists that you can visit for religious needs while shopping for other things too.

Due to expansive nature of the shopping complex, there is always an ample parking space and easy movement. Besides, the variety of shops also enables shoppers to always make the best choices from the wide collections of products and services vendors. These local shops are what make the shopping center a great place to visit at any time of the week. The rich historical background of the shopping complex is another key attraction that makes it outstanding among the rest in the area.

There are several amenities that you can also enjoy while on a shopping tour of Katong Shopping center, including eateries, grocery stores, banks, retail shops among others. To the south of the shopping complex, sits the Marine Parade estate, which consists of a mix of private and public HBD housing. In fact, there are several residential developments around the shopping center, and this is one reason it offers a variety of...

Quite crowded when I visited around 1pm.

Place quite cramp and small. Can get quite noisy and hard to hear each other in the enclosed place.

Pricing isn't that cheap any longer as it caters to the tourist experience.

Food quantity for the small portion is just nice for me. It's a bit stingy on the chilli paste, though, like it's only half a teaspoon. Though it's flavorful, I find it slightly above average and nothing to shout about. Otah ok as well and was served cold or room temperature which was in an aircon enclosed area.

Cleanliness is ok, and as soon you finish, the Indian worker comes and clears the soiled bowls. I'm not sure if the tables are wiped and cleaned after each customer leaves.

I won't go so far again just for laksa, but since I was around the area to collect an item, I thought to give this place a try and shout out but really, nothing to shout about.

Though the walls full of pictures with famous celebrities and such, the place and its food have lost its lusture and appeal.

I'm not sure how it had won against Chef Ramsey. Must be lucky...

Katong Shopping Centre is a very old building... Unlike in the past where many came here for bowling, shopping and duplicating of songs in tapes. This building is now well known as a place where there are:

many maid agencies for those who wish to have more options prior to hiring a domestic helper

several photocopy shops that students nearby (VJC, St Patrick & etc) came to make copies of study notes at 3 cents each (for black & white)

quite a number of good makan outlets e.g. the famous banana cakes, chicken rice stall and lately (started only in early May 2021), there are a number of new stalls added in the basement food court i.e. one Ipoh Zi Char Stall, one Western Food Stall and one Fried Carrot Cake Stall :-)

It will be nice if the building management can put in more effort towards maintenance of the building (re-painting with nicer paint, improve the air ventilation & revamp...

There's nothing much in this old mall except for the myriad of maid agencies, and a table tennis training school. However, there was a chicken rice stall at the basement which was absolutely fantastic. The chicken was super tender and tasty. The bean sprouts were cooked perfectly, and topped with a generous helping of salted fish and four pieces of imitation abalone (? I think). Our order of chicken and bean sprouts came with free unlimited achar and free soup. The achar was hearty with huge chunks of pineapple, onions, cucumber and zest, while the flavor-packed soup was full of peanuts, lotus roots and chicken feet (not the watery veggie soup normally served at most chicken rice stalls). Really delicious. I'll rate it 12 on a scale of 10.
