This hotel is a 30 minute walk from Orchard Road. You can catch the MRT but the closest MRT station is Stevens and it is a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. The other option is to get a bus and the bus stop is a 2 minute walk from the hotel and would need to catch the 190 bus. You could also wait for the hotel shuttle bus to go to Orchard Road and you can scan the QR code at reception or outside the hotel. There are a few restaurants on site which you can go to for dinner and there is also a 7 Eleven store closeby where you can buy whatever you need for your stay. There is also a Cafe just opposite reception if you want to buy coffee or cold drinks. We arrived around 11:00am at the Mercure to drop off our bags and to check in, we were helped by Deepika who explained all information to us and also gave us our bag numbers on a card and advised to quote this when we came back later to collect our keys. After that we went exploring around Orchard Road for quite some time and arrived back around 9:00pm and were greeted by Gopi. We advised Gopi that we had already checked in earlier that morning and just wanted our keys to our rooms. He then asked for our passports again but advised him that we had already checked in and had our bag numbers which for our rooms and he then had a look for the keys after we had told him the bag numbers. After locating our keys Gopi gave them to us and at no stage did he apologise for misunderstanding what we wanted. We then went to our rooms and I went to press a light button near the bed and the face plate for the electrical socket came loose and fell off and then put the face plate back on and then went to locate the bell hop who had just delivered our bags and advised him of the situation and he said would send a technician to fix it for me. After a few minutes a technician came and they used the screw driver and their hand banging on the face plate to fix it in place. Then it looked like it had been fixed in place , but after the technician had left I pressed softly on the light button and the face plate came loose again. The next morning on my way out went to reception to let them know the face plate was loose and the bell hop who had helped was surprised to see me at reception and told him that the face plate had not been fixed properly. I then went to reception and advised the team member of the situation and also showed them the photo that I had taken of the loose face plate and they advised me that someone would be sent to fix it. When I came back in the evening the first thing that I checked was to see if the face plate for the power points had been fixed but to my surprise it looked as though no one had been sent to fix it. Then it was back down to reception to let them know that I still had a loose face plate for the power points. I explained the situation to the team member there and they then asked if they could take a photo of the photo that I had taken and would send someone to fix it. After a few minutes a technician came and did what they needed to do to fix the face plate with the power points. After the technician left I went to try and charge me phone from the USB cable but there was no power there, so then tried the power point and there was no power to that either. To save time I thought I could ring the operator to advise them what had the problem was but no one answered , but let the phone ring for a long time twice. Them had to trudge back down to reception and let another team member of the problem now and the team member said to me "Would you like to change to another roo.?" I then advised this team member that it was not much use as was leaving the next day. They then advised me that they would be sending someone to fix the problem for me. After a few minutes another technician came in to fix my problem. This technician tried a few things but nothing worked. They then got an adapter to plug in and asked me to try and with USB cable to charge and it worked. If given Room 412 check the face plate and to see if there is power in the...
Read moreWe are currently staying at the Mercure Singapore on Stevens, with my family. There are four of us, my wife and I and our two boys 10 and 4yrs old. Before i detail our terrible stay at the hotel all i hope is that those considering this hotel for family should stop and choose somewhere else that has rooms to cater for families. After paying over $3200 AUD for 9 nights, we arrived at the hotel and due to arriving early we had to wait until later as check in is 3pm. Unfortunately they do not appear to provide a service for young family who have been travelling to check-in early. After returning later in the day to check-in with our tired kids we were informed that the room allocated to us only had one bed, a queen sized bed and that we were expected to all share this one bed. We were absolutely shocked and disgusted that the hotel expected us to all share a single bed. Our boys being 10 and 4 are not small and the idea of sharing was unbelievable. We complained that this was not acceptable and were then offered a single roll out bed, and again with the assumption that 3 of us would share the queen bed and one in the single. To make things worse we had spent over $3200 for this room and the hotel was now asking us to pay for this extra single roll out bed. Unbelievable. Prior to arriving at the hotel we were under the assumption that the room booked would have a bed for my wife and i and either a shared bed for the boys or single for each - and that would be included. Now we were being asked to share a bed between 3 and pay extra for a roll out. The Hotel did offer to upgrade our room to a bigger room but again at nearly $150AUD a night extra giving a total upgrade cost of nearly $1500 on top of the $3200. This was a nightmare and the hotel just seemed to think it was okay for 4 to sleep in the same bed. After getting to our room we saw the true horror of the room. It was so small, only suited to 2 people max. My wife even said when she saw the room that there's no way the room can accommodate 4, there's no place to store our suitcases or even hang our clothes. The bathroom was a toilet and small shower only. To store our suitcases during the night we will have to place them into the bathroom. After agreeing to accept a single roll out bed to be placed in the room we found that it was impossible to move about the room. Even putting the cases under the bed was not possible as the supports for the bed base prevented the cases from being placed there. To add more misery to the experience the room only had 4 clothes hangers and the small beer fridge did not even work. I guess for 1 star the aircon did work, but as my eldest said when he first sat on the bed to watch TV as that's the only place the kids can watch the TV, the beds are really hard and uncomfortable. This is our first day at the hotel and it doesn't appear there's a simple solution for us to get either a bigger room or move hotels without paying a lot of money. In light of this all we can say is that if you have a family please please avoid the Mercure Singapore on Stevens. Its not a family friendly hotel. Maybe if there's two of you then its okay, but it's more like a 2 star for us at a 4 star price. There's better hotels in Singapore as we've been to Singapore now 6 times, once even staying on Sentosa. I truly hope this helps other families as if we'd know 4 to a bed is the accepted here we would have never chosen this hotel. We would though say Singapore is a great place to visit but just not...
Read moreI recently stayed at Mercure on Stevens and would like to share some constructive feedback. Overall, my stay was pleasant, but there were a number of small mishaps that held the experience back from being excellent. I hope this feedback helps the team identify areas for improvement.
Location – 3/5 The hotel is about a 12-minute walk from the nearest MRT station. While there is a shuttle bus available, it ties guests to a fixed schedule. Alternatively, guests can take the public bus in front of the hotel. Tourist attractions are not nearby, so commuting is unavoidable if one wishes to explore the city.
Room – 4/5 The room was compact (as advertised), but clean and well-equipped. A few signs of wear and tear were noticeable. One concern: my TV displayed another guest’s name, which could be considered a privacy breach. It’s a minor issue, but worth addressing.
Housekeeping – 3/5 Housekeeping is scheduled every other day for environmental reasons. Daily cleaning is available only if requested the day before. I stayed four nights, but my room was only cleaned once (on the last night), despite making a request earlier in my stay. While I appreciate the sustainability initiative, execution felt inconsistent and left me slightly frustrated.
Breakfast – 5/5 This was a highlight of the stay. For Mercure standards, breakfast exceeded expectations with a wide variety and the advantage of being shared with Novotel. The team here, especially the hosts, deserve recognition—they were cheerful, welcoming, and attentive. It does get busy during peak hours, but their warmth made the experience enjoyable.
Facilities – 4/5 The hotel shares facilities with Novotel, including the gym, pools, and laundromat. The gym is operated by Anytime Fitness and is open to external members, so it may be more crowded than expected for hotel guests. The two pools are a nice feature, and the laundromat (SGD 10 for wash, SGD 10 for dryer) is very handy.
Staff – 3.5/5 Staff interactions were mixed. Housekeeping and breakfast staff stood out for their friendliness and positivity. Special thanks to Deepika at reception, who was very helpful with pre-registration. On the other hand, some experiences were less positive: One receptionist (Mr. Jhn) seemed disengaged, which left an impression of unwelcomeness. Another staff member (Mn) was unsure about basic procedures (e.g., “breakfast-to-go”), which required me to spend significant time explaining. Thankfully, the evening team later resolved it smoothly.
I share this as feedback with no harmful intention—simply to point out that staff consistency is important, as it significantly impacts the guest experience.
Overall – 3.5/5 This was a good stay with strong points in breakfast, facilities, and certain staff interactions. However, the issues with housekeeping, inconsistent reception service, and the small privacy glitch with the TV made the stay feel less seamless. With attention to these details, Mercure on Stevens can deliver a much stronger and more consistent...
