This museum is really friendly to English speakers! Many other museums are mostly or partly in English (understandably) but almost everything here is in both languages, meaning you don’t miss much, if anything.

Wonderful local museum that focuses on the history of the city of Idrija, its geology, and history of mercury mining. One of my favorite rooms talked about preserving Slovene culture under Italian occupation. O also really enjoyed the special exhibit about the properties of Mercury and parallels between Idrija and another mercury mining city in Spain. My favorite part though was the exhibit on Idrija Lace! It was very descriptive and showed lots of beautiful examples.

Don’t sleep on the gift shop, which has several informative books and products from a local family...

Certainly a well restored building, pretty. A large part of the exhibition content overlaps with what you would hear at the Topilnica/Smelting plant and the mine Anthony's tunnel/Antonijev rov. However, it does have the added bonus of historical context of the town and areas through the 5 different governments in the 500 years. There is the lace exhibition. The small artisan shop is quite unique.
