Entry fee: 10 rupees per head. We can spend time as much as we want so its worth the 10 rupees here. Its has a mini park equipment, see-saw, swing, benches. It is kid friendly. It has clean washroom/toilet for both gents and ladies. It also has a cafe/restuarant where we can get from a cup of coffee to scrumptious dinner. Spacious, can sit anywhere. It has a mulberry tree as well. I often enjoy eating it during seasons. The pond needs more care and maintainance. Fishes are there swimming. We can buy anything that we want to eat, vying It inside and enjoy( one has to take care of his own litter). Water dries up in the winter season. This is very much kid friendly just that one has to make sure the kids is safe near the pond. I remember this place was all so abandoned but thanks to Mr. Yanpvuo kikon.

Really wonderful concept, But sorry to say the upkeep of such a can be beautiful place is absolutely pathetic. Request to resident nearby, please get it into ur agenda to get its condition uplifted from the administration authorities. It can be a walkers and joggers paradise and can also be developed as a Yog destination- just a suggestion Parking of the vehicle is a little troubling - my advice is always be disciplined and more careful at this place because Police HQ is nearbyđŸ‘źâ€â™€ïžđŸš“ Authentic Local grocery and veggies market is also nearby ( for those tourists who have adventuring taste buds and with passion for cooking)

Located at the heart of Kohima town bazaar. Park is quite scenic with some water activities and sand box as well as slides for kids to have fun. Artistic murals and paintings on the walls. Has a restaurant inside it but didn’t go visit. Has an open air amphitheater as well. If you feel hungry you can go get some food nearby too. Pay 10 rupees for entry ticket at gate and can stay however long you want. Overall good.

Sokhriezie Park is a public park built around a lake (“Sokhriezie” means “beloved guests lake” where ‘zie’ = lake) in Kohima.

It’s located near PHQ Junction, Kohima. Close to Hotel JapfĂŒ and in the B.O.C (Booker’s Office Circle)-area (the B.O.C, P.R. Hill area).

🏞 History & Development

The park was inaugurated on 4 December 2020 by the Rural Development Minister of Nagaland, Metsubo Jamir.

It was built by the local community (TsĂŒtuonuomia Khel Council), with funding/support from rural development, via grants, and through volunteer labour (free labour, in kind) via programmes like MGNREGA etc.

Along with the park, a market (the Sokhriezie Market) and a waste disposal vehicle (for keeping the area clean) were also inaugurated.

Features

It has scenic value, nice surroundings. Good place to chill or take a walk.

There is a pond/lake, boating is available in some sources.

Facilities include benches, play area / equipment for kids (swings etc.), open space for relaxing.

Entry fee is small — â‚č10 in many reviews.

There is a restaurant or café inside/nearby.

The place is often used for community events, cleanliness drives, environmental programs etc.

⚠ Common Complaints or Issues

Water in the lake / pond sometimes dirty. People have said it needs better maintenance.

During dry season the water levels go down (“water dries up in the winter season”) so pond may look less attractive then.

The upkeep is not always perfect; things like litter/waste management, maintenance of certain facilities could improve.

Parking seems to be a bit of a problem in some reviews.

🔍 Cultural / Historical Significance

The lake is part of local heritage: in older times its waters were salty, used for special guests and local rituals by the TsĂŒtuonuomia Khel community.

The place has communal importance: used in “genna” festivals (traditional feasts / ceremonies) by the local Khel.

💡 Tips If You Visit

Visit in rainy season or post-monsoon to see the water full and clean. Winter may have dry/low water.

Bring something to eat (though there’s cafĂ©/restaurants) but check where; some people prefer to eat nearby.

If you want to take boats, check condition and timings.

Go during less crowded times (morning) for peace and better photos.

Waste: try to help maintain cleanliness (carry your trash), it seems to be an area...
