Trendy, vibey, great food restuarants...art...nature...great service from staff/ waiters....great holiday programs for kids. Art designs outside and inside. Go for coffee....bfast...lunch. or just tea.. wait even just a drink. Music via their selection. Really nice place. Great for tourist and even just a hide out to be alone and spend time on your own with a glass of red or a cuppa. Meet for a quick business breakfast/ lunch ...or go and read a book whilst among a very elite respectful sometimes young...older...vibey crowd. Healthy meals served her aswel as some sweet and you are able to order a sinful meal to adhere to your cravings. No long waits for food or to order. High and low chairs. Couch setting too. This just reminds me where I can go ...just to break free and be alone with a great book. It is very hard to notice the entrance to this place due to the high Bush areas of trees and plants. But do pop in.....alone or with family. Security at the entrance of the gate. You may park outside on the edge of the road too which sux big time. I think their is a payment expected for inside parking. VERY small parking inside which erks the knowledge of me upon seeing and knowing about this great view which a wonderful tourist and local attraction. Want to do something new or different... go there. Find our as much as you can about possible programmes they may have for the holidays as some of them are free too. So...what are you waiting for. Oh yes...this place is quite romantic too. I was alone when I...

My wife and I attended the open house opportunity on Heritage Day. Gaining entry to facility waa the first problem. There's retractable spike at the entry and exit booms. However the the Go signal does not work so you are trusting the guard when they wave you through that you won't be losing 4 tyres. We parked and entered the main foyer. Took a moment to gain our bearings with the back set cafe and the art. A number of staff were helping patrons sort out their parking payments. We scanned the main foyer looking for signs of current exhibits/artists and a basic guide. Nothing was apparent. One of the staff noticed us and asked if we had Checked In, she then issued QR coded item from the system behind the counter and then proceeded to scan it with her mobile phone. That transaction made no sense. We were then directed to upstairs where there was one gallery room that was open. Apparently many were in the process of being setup. Of the 2 rooms that were open there's a flaw in their staging, there's almost no vision to draw the patron into the space, very little to no sub text describing the artist and collection. We made our way to the garden that has quite a number of pieces but quite spread apart, a couple of installations were both brand new or incomplete, it was hard to tell. Disappointed, we left after appropriately paying for parking (there was interesting computer interaction). All...

Even from the outside the Norval Foundation promises to be a delightful outing. In all senses of the word, a cool building housing, at the time of my visit, a cool exhibition of William Kentridge sculptures. It’s not the biggest gallery (and one of the rooms was closed for refurbishment), but still managed to mooch around for over an hour on just this one exhibition. Then a further hour or longer stroll through the beautifully kept gardens to see more sculptures from different artists. This was a perfect way to spend a lazy afternoon, surrounded by art and serenity. Although we didn’t eat, the restaurant on site looked to be turning out beautiful looking plates of food and all other facilities were excellent, from the bathrooms to the underground parking. Best yet, it being the 1st Thursday of the month, it was all free. Signage is small and on the side of the building, so don’t be tempted to drive up the road as we did, as soon as you get off the main road, it’s the first set of barriers on your right.

As I cruise into the downstairs parking the lights turn on for me and momentarily I feel like royalty. Stepping out into the Norval Foundation is a treat. The architecture is modern and functional- being an art museum amongst other things. I love the clean lines of this building. The galleries range in size and are always filled with exciting artists. The focus being Africa. Then there’s the Skotnes Restaurant that serves up a delicious menu and while you enjoy the flavours your gaze is mostly over the wetland and indigenous gardens. Here you can wander around and view plants and installations. Become a member and you’ll be invited to exhibition openings, musical evenings and other interesting events. It’s the place where I go alone to escape the humdrum or spend time with my family and friends.

The Norval Foundation is a wonderful experience &rewarding outing. We arrived just in time for breakfast/brunch (ends at 11am) at the Skotnes restaurant&sat outside - well distanced from others, enjoying the views of the mountain &the sculpture garden in the foreground.Hard to beat &considering the upmarket setting the breakfast prices are reasonable. After brunch, we visited the indoor gallery. Be prepared to pay for this, on the positive side it was a great deal to buy an annual membership (with benefits). The art gallery is well curated & promotes discussion. The spectacular sculptures are set in a beautiful indigenous garden and provide photo opportunities. Interesting children's play area. btw there is also a gift shop with unique items. We enjoyed a restorative time in a beautiful setting.
