I recently visited the Cango Ostrich Farm and had a fantastic time. The ostriches are truly magnificent creatures, and getting to see them up close was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, and the tours were very informative. I learned a lot about ostriches, from their breeding habits to their role in the South African ecosystem.
One thing I was particularly happy about was that the farm no longer offers ostrich rides. I am glad they banned this practice. In my opinion, it's a form of animal abuse and should never be allowed again. These are large, powerful birds, and riding them is simply not natural or comfortable for them.
Instead, the farm focuses on providing educational and interactive experiences for visitors. You can learn about the incubation process, see the chicks (if you visit during hatching season!), and even feed the ostriches. There's also a great curio shop where you can find unique ostrich-themed souvenirs.
Overall, I highly recommend the Cango Ostrich Farm to anyone visiting Oudtshoorn. It's a great place to learn about these fascinating creatures and see them in a natural setting. Just remember, admire them,...
Read moreI really enjoyed this place. The highlight for me was the tour guide and amazing ostrich panini .The gentleman tour guide was so informative, friendly, people orientated, just overall brilliant. The tour takes around 30-40 minutes and there are not many ostriches on display in the begining, 2 miniature ostriches, 2 emus, 2 big ostriches and 1 in heat. You then walk to the larger enclosure where you can get up close and personal but only one at a time.An ostrich massage is included in your ticket price (Voluntary). You hold a bucket in front of you and the ostriches attempt to eat the food over your shoulder rubbing against your neck.Don't expect calming background music to be playing while you get the massage. You can sense the tour guide loves his job and his explanation of the breeding and reviewing fertile eggs was interesting. You also get an opportunity to stand on an egg.Once you have completed the tour, bought souvenir and had a bite to eat, there is not much else to do.No walking paths and you are not able to walk through...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cango Ostrich Farm. The guided tour was very informative. We got to learn about ostriches, their breeding cycle, ostrich eggs, as well as emus and emu eggs. The hands-on experiences with the ostriches were lovely. The children in our group were allowed to go into the enclosure with two pygmy ostriches. Anyone who wanted to could stand on a clutch of ostrich eggs to see how strong their shells are, and we had the opportunity to feed them. Our guide was super! Informative and entertaining, and because he has worked with ostriches for many years, he could share anecdotal experiences The curio shop was well-stocked with some really lovely things. We bought a few empty...
