Oue Werf Country House & Manor — Hotel in George

Unfortunately the visit was a real disappointment. The rooms did not match what was on the website and also not the offering, for what is advertised being a luxury guest house. The rooms are due for renovations (shower floor is peeling, door handles are loose) and also the general entertainment area outside was not set up (table and chairs pushed aside, no cushions) and the swimming pool was dirty and not looked after. The main area was not inviting at all. Dinner was pre arranged and confirmed, yet not catered for on the overnights stay. Had to get back into the car after a long drive and make use of a restaurant in area instead. Upon expressing the disappointment on the day and after the stay, nothing much was said and no responsibility has been taken for the lack of service experienced. Also no interest in seeing the pictures taken of the rooms and general entertainment areas. Here an honest review of the disappointment...

In our 2+ week stay in South Africa, this was one of the top 3 places we stayed, and most were superior. We loved, the family run theme and the variety of historical artifacts and paintings on display. We felt that we really gained an appreciation of the rural farming history of the area. We were in a cottage that was well appointed and felt very special to be there. The dinner and breakfast on site were served family/buffet style and featured traditional dishes that were extremely tasty and were carried each day. There is an adjacent winery and an Ostrich Farm across the street. On arrival at this lovely farm location we were greeted warmly by Marian (apologies if wrongly spelt). The property is surrounded by farmland and immediately creates a calm and relaxed feel. We were given the Manor suite which consisted of a large bedroom, sitting area and separate toilet and bathroom.|All were clean and bedding was crisp and relaxing.|We had our evening meal at Oue Weft and the three courses were all delicious.
