Informative and interesting visit to Monkeyland. We saw Gibbons, Langurs, Lemurs, Capuchin Monkey, Howler Monkey, Spider Monkey, Vervet Monkey. The animals have healthy food buffets setup for them around the trail.

I'm not a biologist so am not sure of the implications of housing this many monkey species freeroaming in the same area that would never cross each other's paths in the wild as they live on different continents.

The widowed and childless female Gibbon was very sad to see. She looked despondent.

Unfortunately our guide became preoccupied with retrieving a pair of prescription glasses stolen by a monkey from a person in a previous group. He warned us he was going to throw a rock near it to get it to drop the glasses. A rock about half the size of a cricket ball was pegged at the monkey. I thought it was going to hit it. The monkey took off further up the tree.

We stood several times for minutes at a time alone while he went back to try again, making the tour very disjointed. The glasses werent even for anyone in our group so we had no vested interest. The glasses were not retrieved.

The pitch on arrival to buy a 1m3 patch of land in trust to the monkeys would probably be best served at the end of the tour after we have seen the park. It is hard to commit to something (even a small donation such as this) without experiencing the facility first. At the end we were taken back a different way and nowhere near the gift shop and reception area and I'm sure some people would have donated then.

We much preferred our visit to Birds of Eden next door. Quite expensive for a...

5-Star Review for Monkeyland

Monkeyland is an absolute treasure! Our visit was nothing short of magical, and it’s clear why this place is so highly regarded. From the lush forest setting to the incredible variety of free-roaming primates, the experience is both educational and awe-inspiring.

The guided tour was fantastic—our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about conservation. We learned so much about the different species and their natural behaviours while exploring the breathtaking sanctuary. Seeing the monkeys roam freely in such a well-maintained and ethical environment was truly heartwarming.

The facility is well-organised, clean, and designed to ensure both visitor enjoyment and animal welfare. The hanging bridge walk was a highlight, offering a unique perspective of the forest and its fascinating inhabitants.

Monkeyland is a must-visit for animal lovers, families, or anyone looking for a memorable and meaningful adventure. It’s not just an attraction; it’s an experience that leaves you with a deeper appreciation for wildlife and the importance of conservation.

Thank you, Monkeyland, for an unforgettable day—I can’t...

Oh, what a terribly experience. The reception at the gate was cold and impersonal. We were 4 couples. We and another couple had babies in strollers with us. We are given no warning of the rough terrain ahead. We had to carry the strollers over fallen trees and a 130m suspension bridge which were impossible to traverse with the strollers. I must have picked up our stroller at least 20 times to try and keep up with our guide Zandile who never once slowed when we fell behind. We actually lost site of her for a bit and she never waited for us. By the time we caught up, the group was already moving on. They should have named the place Lemurland, because 95% of the animals you'll see are lemurs. We only saw 3 species of monkeys in total. When pressed to explain the difference between 2 types of lemurs, the best the guide could come up with was that one species can have more babies that the other. Nothing else of interest was brought forth.

Tldr; poor guides, very few monkeys, tons of lemurs, not for families with babies, very expensive for what you get. Won't...

Wow what an amazing experience I didn’t know we had something like this in South Africa. Just a short drive out of Plettenberg Bay, we arrived at Monkeyland not knowing what to expect. The sanctuary was beautiful, our guide was excellent and full of good stories. Some of the little monkeys walk through our group carefree. The sounds, the scenery and the beautiful animals was such an awesome experience. We went to Birds of Eden right after and I was blown away at the size of the sanctuary. Felt like I was walking through a jungle filled with so many species of birds and other small wildlife. The waterfalls and river streams combined with the sounds of the birds really makes you forget you’re in a town and makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the Amazon jungle. Ticket prices aren’t cheap but it’s totally worth it and the money goes to preserving the sanctuary. There’s plenty of parking. I would imagine it would be very difficult for disabled in wheelchairs but not impossible. There are gift shops and a small restaurant inside
