Booked the cave visit and guided walk from Pinnacle Point to Mossel Bay lighthouse. The cave visit was average at best, it is a cave with sandbags inside and you can see layers of sand compacted together over the years. There is also a single palm sized seashell protruding out of the layers. You are shown a photoshopped picture of "what things could have looked like" of a grass pasture in from of the cave, with animals grazing. I would give this "point of human origins" a miss. Do Not fall for the hype. Personally, I thought that this was very overpriced at R850 per person, to visit 1 cave and then have somebody walk with you to the Lighthouse along the St. Blaze trail (which is Free, for all public to walk). Taxi cab fare will also set you back R120 to get back to Pinnacle point. Cango Caves at R200 is a far better visit, with Much more to see in the surrounding area! Mossel Bay has a Lot better to offer than point of Human origins.
Thank you for your responce, Clearly I have struck a nerve, that is offending you;
We provided a service that you booked, but your perception of our product is beyond our control. - Hence the reason for my review, Please try Not to be offended. Hopefully you will come to understand the point of a google review? Our hiking guide told me that you were very quiet and we're not really participating during the hike and tour. - I guess that he is also a behavioral and personality expert and holds the associated accredited qualifications, or is it just his perception that is beyond my control? Also not sure what "we're" (sic) means in your sentence? I was peacefully enjoying the hike. Does the guide expect people to jump up and down while possibly singing to express themselves, in order for him to gauge satisfaction of the client? Maybe you were not having a good day. - Actually I was.
Cango caves are very special, but you can't compare them. It's a completely different site and operation. - You are quite literally stating the obvious "completely different site and operation". I was suggesting them as a better alternative for everyone that reads this review!
I don't need to explain the value of the archeological cave site, as Pinnacle Point Site Complex, as you already heard it received World Heritage Site status. - Correct, you don't need to explain the value of the archological cave site, your ticket price does. Our guide has been trained by an archeologist that worked on this site, so information that the guide gives is up to date. - Where did I question the guide's training or his university qualification that he obtained from the archeologist? Furthermore, I did Not question if the information that the guide gives, is out of date, or are you just adding this in your reponce, to authenticate your business?
Yes, St Blaize hiking trail is open to the public and you can hike on it for free. You wife/partner booked guided hike, and I didn't questioned her decision because someone people prefer to hike with guide. The person that you called "Somebody", that hiked with you is a qualified nature guide with years of experience. - Clearly "somebody" is also suffering offence here. Where did I question the guide's training, years of experience or his accredited qualifications?
Price will always be debatable. We think it's good value for half a day experience with 2 qualified guides. - No doubt that you do.
Regarding taxi - if the driver charged you R120, it was a misunderstanding and I'll refund you. - I am Not looking for a refund, I am attempting to ensure that other potential victims also do not get exploited in the same way.
Mossel Bay indeed has an amazing variety of places to visit and we are very confident that Point of Human Origins is one of them - just look at our reviews/messages we get from visitors. - Hence the reason...

Christopher is the guide. He brings the visit to life with one of the most amazing, interactive learning experiences I've ever had, and I'm a professional technical trainer by trade. This man manages to sum up human evolution, paleontology, hydrology, stratigraphy, and physical geology over the course of an hour. And he does so with such expertise and animation that kids and adults are captivated.
The tour involves a some moderate hiking, and a lot of stair climbing. But the way Christopher divides up the narrative explanations gives everyone a chance to rest without anyone noticing that their resting.
Did you know that watering and chemically fertilizing a golf course could erase hundreds of thousands of years of archaeology hundreds of feet below? Did you know that stone-age humans disposed of their organic garbage in the furthest interior recesses of their caves?
After a visit to the Point of Human Origins, you'll be inspired to learn so much more.
Some notes on logistics: I called the number on the website and a real human answered the phone. Within a few minutes I had a reservation for a same-day tour.
The tour begins on the property of a private golfing club. The golfing club staff are ultra-friendly and helpful. They greet you at the front gate, and they tell you exactly where to go. Parking is safe and secure. Get there a few minutes early and enjoy a cold beverage on the terrace overlooking the cliffs.
This is a great tour for kids, but make sure there's at least one adult per kid to supervise. There are a few places along the walk where you definitely want to hold your...
