Modderfontein Bird and Sculpture Park was an interesting find, near Edenvale. Although the actual entrance is not adequately sign-posted for our first visit, we managed to gain access after a u-turn less than 50 meters or so up the road. The entrance fee of R15 per person (tender by card only) is very reasonable. One needs to be careful when walking on the wooden bridge over the canal, as several of the boards are uneven. Then the lake and some of the rather interesting sculptures, mostly of animals, come into view. Some are made of perhaps thousands of metal washers welded into perfect animal form, and others are made of what appears to be horseshoes. An almost life-like elephant formed with roughly hewn, rather large twigs, stands majestically among the children's playground apparatus. Near the edge of the dam, the figurine of a young girl made of what appears to be steel wire, taking the beautiful form of a fairy, appears to be walking on the surface of the water. There appeared to be enough places to sit and enjoy a picnic. There does not appear to be a shop, but the kiosk at the entrance did stock water and cold drinks. The perfect venue for families to enjoy a picnic in a safe and beautiful environment. Apparently, a farmers market of sorts is held there on the last Saturday of each month. There is a dog park near the entrance, and a padel-tennis facility appears to be under construction. It's worth a visit to just chill.

Awesome spot for a weekend-picnic by the lake - the park / sanctuary is really well looked after and so worth the R15-00 0 per person entrance-fee. There is ample safe parking available.

I saw quite a few folks walking their dogs and many a kid playing in the sand-pit and playground - really really cool.

If you're not packing a picnic-basket then there is a small shopping centre ( Flamingo Mall ) opposite the road where you can have a sit-down meal or get some take-aways.

Alcohol is not allowed in the park but one can completely understand that as it is a public...

Spent the afternoon at Flamingo Park having a Mother's Day picnic.

Pleasant environment on the banks of Modderfontein Dam with plenty of things to keep the children busy.

From an accessibility point of view, one has to slog through thick lawn to get to the Dam. It would be an excellent idea to put in a paved/Wooden path from parking lot to the Dam. That would make it easier for parents with strollers too.

Toilets are definitely...
