Read moreI've been to many wine yards in and around South Africa and this is definitely my favourite! On this visit we had a guide (the best one ever called Ashraf from Ilios travel) who took us to three in the area. On arrival we were greeted with a friendly welcome from the wife and then her husband who were both passionate about their wine.I have to say that this couple work extremely hard at running this place and the seating area for drinking and eating is just so lovely with the wonderful views. I really didn't want to leave as it was just so relaxing and pretty, and what with the wonderful cheese and meat platter and the most amazing wines, it was hard to go. Make this one of you musts to do in South Africa as you won't regret it. We bought two bottles of wine from each place and Eikehof was definitely the best! If you can, try and get Ashraf to take you around the wine yards so you can drink. We will make a return visit with our entire family when we visit...
Read moreIn February 2025 we visited the winery for a wine tasting - and cheese platter, which was quite small. As usual, we did a blind tasting. The owner and his wife came along to say HELLO. The sommelier was quite competent and attentive. After tasting the wines according to the ordered tasting option, he came along with 2 more reds and another red, sweet one we have not asked for. After checking the invoice we recognized he had also charged the 2 additional reds (premium type) and the port type - all of them we have not asked for neither ordered. Additional 200 ZAR and 5 ZAR for the paper box for the Cape Ruby we purchased (340 ZAR for 375ml)
Our summery: Nice family owned wine farm with nice view and reasonable wines. BUT : you have to pay for what you did not order - so be careful and better ask before accepting additional wines to taste. We never experienced this...
