I've been to many wine yards in and around South Africa and this is definitely my favourite! On this visit we had a guide (the best one ever called Ashraf from Ilios travel) who took us to three in the area. On arrival we were greeted with a friendly welcome from the wife and then her husband who were both passionate about their wine.I have to say that this couple work extremely hard at running this place and the seating area for drinking and eating is just so lovely with the wonderful views. I really didn't want to leave as it was just so relaxing and pretty, and what with the wonderful cheese and meat platter and the most amazing wines, it was hard to go. Make this one of you musts to do in South Africa as you won't regret it. We bought two bottles of wine from each place and Eikehof was definitely the best! If you can, try and get Ashraf to take you around the wine yards so you can drink. We will make a return visit with our entire family when we visit...

In February 2025 we visited the winery for a wine tasting - and cheese platter, which was quite small. As usual, we did a blind tasting. The owner and his wife came along to say HELLO. The sommelier was quite competent and attentive. After tasting the wines according to the ordered tasting option, he came along with 2 more reds and another red, sweet one we have not asked for. After checking the invoice we recognized he had also charged the 2 additional reds (premium type) and the port type - all of them we have not asked for neither ordered. Additional 200 ZAR and 5 ZAR for the paper box for the Cape Ruby we purchased (340 ZAR for 375ml)

Our summery: Nice family owned wine farm with nice view and reasonable wines. BUT : you have to pay for what you did not order - so be careful and better ask before accepting additional wines to taste. We never experienced this...

Small family run boutique winery. I love places like this, not commercial, chilled out and great customer service. We came on the afternoon of a freezing and rainy day in August. Our server was Caleb and be was a real character, knew his stuff but presented it in such an engaging way with humour. The wines were really nice and the pours very generous. We sat on the lounges and it was super cosy. The owner came in and greeted us which was lovely. Caleb asked if we wanted to meet the pet Ostriches and brought us some cut apples. We went out into the field and Joe the Ostrich only responded when we called him Joseph which was very funny. Of course this ostrich also bit me.. haha (I seriously have no luck feeding these birds!) The main dining area and shop sells a lot of cooking items, oils, spices and the most beautiful wildflower bunches. Favourite winery of the day.

Almost didn't want to post this review, because when too many people discover this gem I am worried it will lose its magic. If you go to only one wine farm in Franschhoek, go to this one. Francois and Elise and their team were welcoming, friendly, unhurried, so very passionate and totally unpretentious. It was a busy Saturday around 1ish when I got there to taste some wines. I tasted most if not all and without exception, for me they were excellent. Good value for money as well. And you know there is a special something when you are sitting in the shade of the big oak trees after which the farm is named and the winemaker owner is pointing out the very vineyard from which the grapes came to make the wine you are drinking. Wow, can't wait to visit again. Off to get a bottle of their 2020 Chardonnay out of the fridge right now. Cheers 🥂
