If you love coffee shops and the beach, this is the perfect place to visit. My husband and I don't drink coffee often, but when we travel, we looove to try out local coffee or tea shops. And we also love the beach. So we planned this trip with our friend who lives about 2 hours drive away. We drove here together with her and enjoyed the day here, relaxing and sipping coffee and yummy pastries. we also ate a feast of Korean sushi and fish soup nearby. It was such a lovely day.

A long this side, there are a lot of beaches but I thought the beach in Anmok got more people to come than others, they have a lot of coffee shops and some restaurants but I think it’s hard to find a place to eat here because most of them are coffee shop. You can park your car in the street for free but it’s really hard to find a free spot.

안목해변은 1980~90년대만 해도 다른 해변과 비슷하게 횟집이 많았던 평범한 거리였습니다. 지금처럼 안목종점이 있던 것도 아니어서 교통이 불편한 곳이었기에 여기로 오려면 대중교통보다는 택시를 이용하는 것이 편했습니다. 이곳 해변에는 유독 자판기 커피가 많았는데, 이 자판기 커피를 안목해변으로 손님을 태우고 온 택시 기사들이 애용하기 시작했습니다. 자판기 커피가 거기서 거기 아니냐고 생각할 수 있지만, 자판기마다 커피 브랜드, 설탕, 프림의 비율이 달라 미묘하게 맛의 차이가 있어 손님들마다 애용하는 자판기가 따로 있을 정도였습니다. 이렇게 입소문을 타면서 자판기는 50대까지 늘어났습니다. 이렇게 자판기 커피가 안목해변의 인지도를 조금씩 높였고, 1998년 마침내 안목해변에 원두커피 전문점이 입점하기에 이르렀습니다. 여기에 유명 바리스타들의 강릉 입주 및 개점이 이어졌습니다. 대표적으로 박이추의 ‘보헤미안’과 김용덕의 ‘테라로사’. 이 두 곳은 강릉 커피를 논할 때 빠지지 않을 정도로 유명한 커피 전문점입니다.이렇게 유명 바리스타의 커피 전문점이 입점하고 원두커피의 인기가 오르면서, 안목해변을 너머 강릉시 전역의 다방을 몰아내고 커피 전문점/체인점들이 들어섰습니다. 이어서 2009년 강릉시에서 직접 커피 축제까지 개최하면서 본격적으로 '강릉 하면 커피‘라는 인식이 자리잡게 되었습니다. 여기에 당시 국민적 인기를 지닌 예능 프로그램이었던 1박 2일에 안목해변의 커피 전문점들이 소개되면서 안목해변은 전국적인 인지도를 얻게 되었습니다. 오늘날에는 수많은 카페들 사이에 횟집 1~2개 있는 수준으로 많은 커피 전문점들이 입점해 있습니다. 커피거리의 일등공신이라 할 수 있는 자판기들은 이제는 거리 구석에 손에 꼽을 정도로 줄어들었지만, 그래도 이 거리의 시작이 자판기 커피에서 시작되었다는 점은 커피거리의 역사에서 꾸준히 보이고 있습니다.

Beautiful beach but not a good place for swimming since it's very deep. There are many cafes next to the beach which have amazing views. Also it is not crouded since people go to nearby Gyeongpo beach for swimming. There aren't enough place for parking but you can find spacous parkinglot nearby a port which is at the south end...
