Kim Ilseong Cottage Inn Hwajinpo — Attraction in Geojin-eup

Before the outbreak of the Korean War, the border between North and South Korea was the 38th parallel, and Hwajinpo in Goseong was also within North Korean territory.

North Korea’s Kim Il-sung converted the missionary retreat facilities that were originally there into a villa, invited Soviet advisors, and even the young Kim Jong-il at the time enjoyed swimming there. This place, which boasted such beautiful scenery, became part of South Korean territory after the Korean War and subsequent armistice.

Ironically, South Korea’s President Syngman Rhee also built a villa here, making it a historic site where both North and South Korean leaders who commanded the war in the 1950s had their villas.

원래는 캐나다인 선교사의 교회와 별장이였으나 38선으로 인해 6.25전쟁 전에는 이북으로 속하게 되어 당시 김일성 일가가 별장으로 쓰인 곳. 고성의 화진포에는 별장이 3개 존재 김일성 별장, 이기붕 별장, 이승만 별장으로 그 중 김일성 별장으로 출발. 김일성 별장 가는 길은 언덕으로 올라가는 길, 계단으로 올라가는 길로 2가지 존재. 김일성 별장은 원래는 화진포의 성으로 불리었지만 김일성 일가가 별장으로 사용되어 김일성 별장으로도 불리어짐. 내부는 간단한 소품 등으로 구성. 계단으로 올라가는 길에는 김정일이 어렸을 때 찍은 사진과 함께 장소 소개가 되어있음. ㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡ Originally, it was a church and villa of a Canadian missionary, but due to the 38th parallel, it belonged to the north before the Korean War, and the Kim Il-sung family was used as a villa at the time.
