Before the outbreak of the Korean War, the border between North and South Korea was the 38th parallel, and Hwajinpo in Goseong was also within North Korean territory.

North Koreaโ€™s Kim Il-sung converted the missionary retreat facilities that were originally there into a villa, invited Soviet advisors, and even the young Kim Jong-il at the time enjoyed swimming there. This place, which boasted such beautiful scenery, became part of South Korean territory after the Korean War and subsequent armistice.

Ironically, South Koreaโ€™s President Syngman Rhee also built a villa here, making it a historic site where both North and South Korean leaders who commanded the war in the 1950s had their villas.

The scenery, with its beautiful lake and beach harmoniously blending with the distant mountain ranges, certainly seems worthy of such...

I was not able to see any historic value of the entire property. The vacation house supposed to be used by the communist leader, Kim, back in the days, was not even the actual house in the past. Why not just renovate the whole place as a beach resort for the public? We even had to pay to enter the property. It was so...
