황악산(1,111m)자락에 천년고찰 직지사 주변 무분별한 개발을 막기 위해 김천시에서 200억여원의 공사비를 들여 2001년 12월에 착공하여 2004년 4월에 준공 하였고 수 많은 조각작품과 시 비, 음악분수대, 공연장, 놀이터, 황악정, 인공폭포 등 보고 듣고 즐길거리로 탄생한 것이 직지문화공원이다. 또 입구에 우리나라에서 가장큰 장승과 도자기 박물관, 백수문학관, 생태공원, 사명대사공원, 김천시립박물관, 직지사가 어울어져 있어서 남녀노소 누구나 함께할 수 있는 공원이랄 수 있겠고, 테마별로 각각의 주차장이 마련되어 있어서 주차에 큰 불편함은 없겠지만 상가주차장을 이용하고 천천히 걸어서 주변 풍경을 감상하면서 공원으로 가는 것도 의미가 있을 것 같다. 주차료와 공원 입장료는 전부 무료라 부담없이 관람, 즐기며...
