크게 볼 것 없는 이 골목에서 그나마 볼 만 한곳은 구룡포 근대역사관이다. 1920년대 하시모토 젠기치라는 부자가 살림집으로 지은 2층 일본식 목조가옥이다. 당시 구룡포에서 선어운반업으로 크게 성공한 사람이라고. 이 건물을 짓기 위해 일본에서 직접 건축자제를 운반했다고 한다.

최근 복원공사를 통해 구룡포 근대역사관으로 개관했다. 이름은 구룡포 근대역사관이지만 구룡포의 근대 역사를 알 수 있는 건 1층 방 끄트머리의 영상자료를 통해서 뿐이다. (이름을 바꿔야 할 듯) 대신 일본식 불단, 난방기구, 창살, 장식기둥, 칸막이 문 등등 부유한 일본가옥의 구조적/의장적 특징이 잘 갖춰져 있어 그런 부분을 구경하기에 적합하다. 엄밀히 따지면 구룡포 근대역사관이 아니라 일본 가옥 보전 및 고증/ 생활상을 짐작할 수 있는 역사적 현장 정도가 적합하다.

내가 구경을 하는 와중에 한 남자분이 여성 두명을 이끌고 해설을 하고 있었는데, 해설의 수준은 참담했다.
