Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) — Attraction in Seongnam-si

This is a very famous institute for their publications and the excellence of the resources available for scholars. The classes are small and the ratio of professors to students provides for a close relationship between graduate students (only graduate students can study there) and professors.

The campus is an inspiration with a setting that inspires one to dig deeply into the Korean research. It is a relatively large campus and is not cluttered with too many building and there are paths that lead through woods and overlook the beautiful Korean style buildings. There is also a beautiful gazebo that overlooks a water Lilly filled pond. These buildings are all architectural delights and an inspiration to all who view them.

The entrance to the institute gives one the feeling that you are entering the precious wonderland that the institute certainly is. The school is truly Korean but also a microcosm of the world with students from so many countries in the world.

Finally off campus there are excellent restaurants and upscale stores that cater to the students. For me the only negative is the sound from the distant highway on the upper slopes of the nearby mountain. I have visited this institute many times. The property is very well maintained and really beautiful. There are many traditional Korean buildings and even some recently added. While there not only visit the beautiful campus but also the museum. Its displays change and each one is well worth seeing. This institute is a major depository of Korean documents that go back to the three kingdom period, well over one thousand years. Expect to spend at least on hour in the museum.
