Sogang University — Attraction in Seoul

This review is solely based on overall experience and is not a review about the program. The program is nice. But experience is lacking. You can have different experience than mine.

If you want to pursue MBA program in sogang in the english speaking program,

Let me explain. People accepted in the program do not have the skill to be in the program at all. They do not speak english. Ok they speak some but not even middle school level and they cannot make complete sentences. (There are some who can of course)

Foreigners work 10x as hard to rewrite reports and redo powerpoints because the koreans' english level doesnt even compare with middle school kids. They cannot make sentences.

If there is anything i learnt during the program, its the seniority. The older men are the one who order younger ones to do the work and they sit back and relax enjoying the grade u have earned for them. That's right. They do nothing but ordering u around.

Lets not forget about copy and paste off of wikipedia and called it work done.

Lets not forget about them copying ur notes because they dont know anything about what the professors talk about in class.

Lets not forget about older men going to office hour to explain their presentation in korean because they suck in english and afraid professors don't understand their english when they do presentation in class.

Lets not forget about how they say something in english and people dont even know what it means and when people ask question, they answer ohh i'll email u the answer in english koz i dont know what ur question means.

These people exist every single semester in simba program and they call themselves great because they are old.

Someone brought an english book and show off to everybody he was learning 900 basic every day sentences to get better in english. (He is accepted in simba program. An english speaking MBA)

If i have to repeat, this program is for people to learn english and not feel like an MBA program.

It was completely easy for me to get in and something was fishy. I found out later there is this problem. They advertise in news articles and everywhere to be known for good program and for diversity.

Lets not forget about a professor who answered a student's question in Korean and pissed off some exchange students koz they dont understand korean.

Lets not forget about these old dudes who write tests and quizes in korean. Why dont they go to Mba in korean? I don't get it. The program is in english and it is very unfair to write things in korean.

Lets not forget about teacher's assistants who give u instructions in korean. And not in english ever.

I am not trying to defame the school. The program is fine but experience is not fine. Sogang is great but a more careful consideration in admission process would be nice. They should accept students who speak english.

If you are in just to graduate and work hard to translate english to english, come to Sogang. If you're in to seriously learn about something, you might be disappointed

Ps. Be prepared with lots of group works and get frustrated because they will discuss everything in korean, write test and quiz answers in korean, and they will tell u what to do in english and u dont even know what they are saying. So ure screwed and ur team is screwed.

Mind you, the program is 100% in english. But the students are 100% korean. The announcements are in korean. Everything else except the lecture is in korean. Good luck to you, upcoming foreign students who dont know anything about korean culture...

This is specifically for the language department. Unfortunately, as all schools should when training, complaints should be anonymous. There was a complaint filed about a Professor who would belittle her international students without cause. I will not name the professor but the complaint was released to the professor with the complainant’s name and personal information. I would advise the language department head to speak to employees about this violation of privacy. The rest of the university is great except for this...
