Puente colgante del Caminito del Rey — Attraction in Ardales

Normally I'm not a hiking person but this trail is really spectacular! We booked our tickets with a hiking group and started the tour by bus in Málaga.

The whole experience was really hard 😄, but also very beautiful. It's definitely something you should not miss when you're in Andalusia and when you want to do something besides sightseeing and going to the beach.

I would say that normally I have a fear of heights and I was afraid that at some point it would be difficult for me to do this. But I also wanted to challenge myself and I didn't regret it!

A must do hiking activity. This is a one-way trail starting from North (nearby some of the parking lots) to South. It is not that difficult (almost anyone can do it) but you must be ready for a 7.7km walk. Slopes are not that steep and the views are breathtaking. You will be literally walking by the edge of the mountains. The interesting trail is around 3Km long and you will have to walk another 4km (2+2) in the way in and out. A bus can pick you up at the end and take you back to the start point where you would have been dropped or parked your car. Il Caminito del Rey, situato nella provincia di Málaga, in Spagna, è un sentiero spettacolare e mozzafiato che si snoda lungo le pareti verticali del Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. Una volta considerato uno dei percorsi più pericolosi al mondo, è stato completamente restaurato e riaperto al pubblico nel 2015, diventando una delle attrazioni più affascinanti e sicure per gli amanti dell'avventura.

Il percorso di circa 8 chilometri offre panorami incredibili e un'esperienza unica di camminare sospesi nel vuoto, grazie alle passerelle costruite a strapiombo sulla gola. Il sentiero si trova a oltre 100 metri di altezza, con sezioni che offrono una vista diretta sul fiume Guadalhorce sottostante. La camminata richiede circa 3-4 ore per essere completata, ma ogni minuto speso lungo questo percorso vale la pena per le emozioni e le viste spettacolari che offre.

Una delle curiosità più interessanti sul Caminito del Rey è il motivo del suo nome. Il sentiero fu costruito tra il 1901 e il 1905 per permettere ai lavoratori delle centrali idroelettriche di El Chorro e Gaitanejo di spostarsi rapidamente tra i due siti. Fu inaugurato ufficialmente dal re Alfonso XIII nel 1921, che percorse il sentiero per presenziare all'apertura della diga di Conde del Guadalhorce, da cui deriva il nome "Caminito del Rey" (Piccolo Cammino del Re).

Un'altra curiosità riguarda la sicurezza del sentiero. Prima della sua ristrutturazione, il Caminito del Rey era noto per la sua pericolosità, con passerelle deteriorate e assenza di protezioni, che causavano numerosi incidenti. La ristrutturazione ha portato alla creazione di una struttura sicura e moderna, mantenendo però l'emozione e il fascino dell'originale.
