Centro Alfarero "Casa las Miquelas" — Attraction in Candelaria

We weren't aiming to go here, but after following a few signs we found this place. After being greeted, we watched a 20 minute video explaining how pottery was made in the town over the centuries. We then saw a few examples of old and new pots, then watched a demonstration of a pot being made from scratch. We bought a few momentos from the shop and got a great recommendation for lunch. This was a lovely experience at the end of the day. At first we thought it was closed and then a lovely young man opened the museum which was free. Hace una semana estuvimos en Candelaria (Tenerife) y visitamos el Centro de Alfarería Las Miquelas. Somos unos apasionados de la cerámica tradicional así que disfrutamos mucho con la visita del pequeño Museo que tiene el centro de la mano de Acaymo, su guía, que con mucha profesionalidad, nos contó las técnicas y distintas tipologías de esta cerámica realizadas tradicionalmente por las mujeres del lugar y que hoy se mantiene gracias al apoyo del ayuntamiento. Es de agradecer que se mantengan en activo estos centros y se siga enseñando a las nuevas generaciones las técnicas de esta alfarería para que no se pierdan.
