Had a voucher for discount on tickets, unable to use it and was offered zero support from customer service. When we arrived at the ticket office, they didn't want to listen at all and blamed my bank and credit card (two separate entities) for the problem and not that their system could be at fault. The castle itself is reasonable but adly very modernised throughout which is totally at odds to the building itself, losing a lot of charm. The pirate exhibition was ok, but let down by much of the computer interaction being broken or pointless to take part in. If you are used to an original castle then this may disappoint. The staff member on the desk was very friendly and welcoming and showed me where to start in the museum (a personal audio guide is included with the ticket), and there’s a lovely little gift shop...
Read moreA nicely renovated small castle. When we were there, in September, it said it was open Saturday and Sunday, at least. It's free in, and you can have a wander around part of it. It's renovated, but empty. The are no castle-y decorations or furniture. There's some info about the castle and it's history and toilets.
It's in a park, which was fine, but undergoing huge renovations (Sept '18) and perhaps had water damage from recent rain, so the place felt kind of battered.
Google doesn't take the roadworks/renovations into account, which means you have to take the long way around which is confusing. I'd visit if I was in the area, but wouldn't travel...
