I've been to a few tennis tournaments and the Madrid Mutua Open was by far the best in terms of organization (and matches, but we're not talking about luck here)! I dont know if it has to do with Spain (the places we visited in Spain were very organized, everything is easy to follow, fast access, good flow of things) or with the tournament's organization in itself, maybe with both. And that made us enjoy the tournament even more and feel very comfortable! We were on good hands, so to say. We were there for the semis and finals. Even if the queue was huge when we arrived, it all went very fast and we were in before we knew it. Nobody nudged or was disrespectful. There are lots of places you can eat, drink coffee, buy bevarages, buy sports items. It's also very clean. I don't recommend buying tickets for seats exactly behind the glass walls (somewhere in the middle of Manolo Santana arena) as you kinda see the match half through glass, half in "reality" and that's a bit annoying. The best tickets we had at an affordable price were in sector B23 (fila 11, 154€/ ticket, one session). You see everything very well and it's away from the burning sun. I also recommend downloading the Madrid Mutua Open App, there you have, besides the tickets, the possibility of taking a picture of you in the arena. Just go to FunCam in the app and follow the instructions. Chapeau-bas, Mr. Țiriac (owner of the tournament)! I will...
Read moreDifficult to separate the event (Madrid Open) from the venue. Here goes.....
Pros: Venue is clean, has plenty of restrooms, it is in a nice setting and gets a great cross breeze in the common areas when it hot on the courts. Relatively easy to get to on public transportation. Staff is super friendly.
Cons (facilities and event): Food options are expensive and not good. €12 for a hot dog that tastes like plastic is insane. No garbage cans. Very limited seating while eating. The ticket system for getting in and out of the stadium is a joke. And don't get me started on the lack of care for No Smoking rules or the ability to actually turn off the ringer on your cell phone.
I go to a lot of tennis all over the world. These guys really need to improve their organization to been on level field with other top...
Read moreWhere the magic happens! My favourite tennis tournament in the whole world could only happen at such a magical place, and it would only be - needless to say - La Caja Mágica in Madrid. Perfect organisation from each single point of view: transportation, the management of entrances and exits, tickets checks, fun in the venue, food options, and, last but not least, the amazing tournament they have every year. I'm Italian, so I'm currently living the tennis experience at its peak in my country, but I'm not afraid to say that I think Madrid has the best tournament in the world, and I'm happy to come back every year to enjoy it at its fullest. Thank you Madrid and thank you Caja Mágica for the amazing experience you give...
