Review of the area and facilities. Worth a visit if you're near Valencia!

The area itself is beautiful, the river is right in the mountains and you'll have to drive throughout the mountains to get there, a nice drive but with loads of bends, so it's worth being cautious when the signs tell you to slow down. You do pass through a few little towns, if you need a toilet use a bar but I would recommend buying something small like an ice-cream to use the toilet, just out of respect

Parking can be difficult, I would recommend getting there before 10.30-11 to have any chance at parking at the main area, on a weekday, where it's only a 5 minute walk to the river - this way you do have to pay 3.50€ pp to get in, unless you park across the bridge and walk in that way, but it's probably a good 15-20 minute walk and the parking is 4.80€ for 4 hours - you can renew it if you like but 4 hours is plenty off time for a swim and sunbathe

There is a cafe there serving food, soft and alcoholic drinks, although there's not many tables but there is other places to sit. You're not supposed to take a load of food into the area but people do, as long as you're respectful and take a rubbish bag and dispose you will be fine, the river side is clean

There's a few pockets of river, with the main area being the best with a deeper pool bit as you swim into the mountains. This is a river so be mindful that you will need water shoes or sandals that secure to your feet so they don't fall off, and a thick towel if you want to sunbathe, some people use those straw towel to lay underneath their softer towels, again, you're not supposed to bring in chairs but people do. Not too much shade so bring sunscreen. The people are trustworthy and you can leave your belongings with your towels to go for a swim, but I did see quite a few people with waterproof pouch to put their phone in to take photos, which I thought was a good idea

The toilets there are quite un-clean so I would recommend taking some sanitiser/baby wipes and toilet paper, they say that they have people clean them but from what I've...

Having seen all the other reviews we were very excited to visit and made an hour and a half detour to do so. Police checkpoint as you enter the village. Didn't stop us but assume there were restrictions of some sort so not a good vibe from the start. Village roads were slow and crowded with no opportunity to park and wander. No problem we'll go to one of the designated parking areas near the 'thermal' springs and give the dog a walk, I thought. As soon as we excited the vehicle with our dog we were told that dogs aren't allowed by a lady in the parking kiosk?!? Even though 15 metres away a Spanish lady was throwing a ball for her 2 dogs right next to and in the river????? We questioned this and got a shrug of the shoulders and a dismissive wave away. I have checked various websites for the area and it suggests that dogs are welcome on a lead on most of them and there was no mention of dogs being banned from the thermal spring area??? I guess we were the unholy trinity of dog owning, British people in a campervan so not wanted or welcome so we took the hint and left. Can't recommend on my experience there and if you've got a four legged friend don't even consider it. Guess we caught it on a bad day cos the vast majority of reviews are...

Montanejos Baths Review I recently visited the Montanejos hot springs in Spain, and what a disappointment it turned out to be. Five years ago, this was a perfect, serene spot with crystal-clear river water and free access that made it a hidden gem. Now, it's become a cash grab with declining quality. The river water was shockingly white and murky, as if contaminated with floating debris—unusual for a flowing river that should be pristine. I attached pictures to show just how dirty it looked; it's not the inviting blue we expect. Worse are the escalating costs. They've blocked all free roadside parking with pillars, forcing you into their paid lot at €1 per 30 minutes—€8 for just 4 hours! Then, add €4.50 entrance per person. For what? Neglected facilities and polluted water? Spain seems to be turning into a place where you pay stupid prices for basics, and the money goes nowhere. It's worsened every year since my last visit. Not worth the trip anymore—skip it and find a better free alternative. 1/5 stars.

A beautiful place to swim through a canyon in warm blue-green water. The river is shallow to begin with, knee deep and very rocky, rising to chest deep and with a sandier bottom then, as you approach the bend, the water is too deep to stand, before getting shallow again further on. There are a number of other shallower pools too, along the river valley, but all with stoney and rocky bottoms. Take sandals and a blanket as the ground around the pools is either loose sharp gravel, or scrubby grass. There are also stone walls and benches to sit on. We went on Saturday 29 April 2023 and there was 3,50€ entrance fee each. Near the largest and deepest swimming pool with the fuente taps, there is a cafe-bar, toilets and changing rooms. You can walk along the river from Montanejos for approx 1.5km and pay part-way along, near where the CV-195 bridge crosses the valley. Or park just off the CV-195 here, or further up the CV-20 very close to the Fuente de los Baños (for a fee in both car parks).
