We had a fantastic tour of the Rioja region with a lovely guide, Maria Eugenia, who fully knew the region and its history. We walked around Ezcaray and had dinner in a starred Michelin restaurant there then visited the surrounding area including the Sierra de la Demanda. We were centered in Santo Domingo de la Calzada where there are two Paradors (both very good hotels). The cathedral is not to be missed (look out for the cockerel and hens inside and ask for an explanation of the legend they represent). We also visited the monasterys of Yuso and Suso where the Spanish language started. A visit to La Guardia is not to be missed as well as Haro where the top wine producers are located. Do not miss the opportunity of going down into the cellars where wine has been stored for centuries. In all a very memorable few days thanks in great part to Maria Eugenia and her knowledge of wine and its production and of the...
Read moreOur trip to the Rioja region was incredible and organized by Maria. She arranged for a private transfer to pick us up in San Sebastian. We started with a tour/tasting at Rioja Alta (highly recommend) and then had about an hour to walk around the train station district in Haro (7 wineries located here all within walking distance!). We also stopped into do a quick bar tasting at CVNE, which was also fantastic. Our car then took us to Marques De Murrieta (approximately 35 minutes away) to do a tour of their winery and vineyards. Once the tour was finished we sat down to do a wine tasting (5 wines) each with a light food pairing, which was amazing. The day couldn't have been better and it was all thanks to Maria at Rioja In Style. She was very professional and communicated all the details of the day perfectly so we had nothing to...
