Tourist trap! It makes no sense to leave Stockholm for an entire day, take a cruise that takes 5 hours just inside the boat, excluding the hours spent on the island, and pay this value per person (45€) to see replicas all over the island. On the website, it looks like it is a super-maintained place, with real Viking constructions/things, but it isn't even close to it. I chose this excursion to spend my birthday, I was super excited, and it was very frustrating to see everything after. I walked in a circle all over the area, saw the new constructions (which appear to be from people who live there nowadays) and that was all... The cross it's great and the view from up there is beautiful, but it and the animals in the small "farm" close to the village are the highlight of the excursion. Nothing else is original, 99% of the pieces exposed at the museum are replicas (except 3 or 4 combs found at the archaeological sites, which are great and beautiful but that's it), the village isn't well maintained, etc... Not even the shop has something interesting. Just to close the excursion, we decided to go to the restaurant and maybe get some food/drinks. There were no options for food instead of the main courses, so we decided to have a beer meanwhile waiting for the boat departure. The beer cost 11 or 12€ if I'm not wrong and it was completely warm, like it was taken off the shelf at that moment. Terrible. Nevermore. The two stars are just because of the nature of the place which is...
Read moreAn unforgettable all-day visit to the beautiful island of Björkö, which is home to one of Sweden's oldest settlements (approx 750AD), preceding the Viking Age. It is a popular archeological site, with ongoing excavations. Our patient and knowledgeable guides were all trained archeologists who couldn't have been any more helpful. The tickets included the 2 hour boat tour from Stockholm and back, museum entry and the guided walk around the island. During our visit, the museum exhibit focused on four people whose graves had been excavated. This included the "Warrior Woman" who for years had been presumed to be male, due to the prominent location of her grave and the large number of weapons and gifts found there. However, in 2019, DNA testing confirmed that she had indeed been female soldier, which shed new light on the time period. The island also includes a reconstructed viking village and a restaurant with viking-inspired, locally sourced food. All in all, a great way to...
Read moreIf it weren't for the beautiful surroundings going there i would truly say that thetrip going there was quite a dud since i was expecting more from it. In the brochures they showed reenactment of the viking period but when we went there..there were only the shop staff in viking costumes, one of whom was our boat staff.. the guide was also jn costume. Though everyone was friendly it was so disappointing that we found like a deserted island instead of a bustling place. There are better places to visit than this since the trip going there and back is more than 4hrs compared to our stay there which was less than 2hrs and more than half of it was following and listening tothe tour guide. Didnt even have time to explore the other parts...
