I visited Trollhättan during the Fallens Dagar festival (July 18–20, 2025), and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my time in Sweden. Watching the waterfalls when the floodgates open is absolutely breathtaking – the sound, the force of the water, and the overall atmosphere make it truly special. It's a fascinating mix of nature and human engineering.
Before the water release, I enjoyed a peaceful walk through Spikön, the small island right in the middle of the river. It’s a lovely green space with walking paths, benches, and beautiful views of the water from different angles. It’s also a great spot if you want a quieter experience away from the main crowd.
The area around the falls is full of history, with old locks, bridges, and viewpoints like Kungsportsbron and near the Olidan power station. During the festival, the whole place comes alive with live music, food trucks, family activities, and a happy, buzzing crowd.
Tip: Make sure to get to your viewing spot at least 15 minutes early before the scheduled water release – the best spots fill up fast, especially near the bridges...
