Varberg Fortress — Attraction in Varbergs kommun

Varberg Festung, or Varberg Fortress in other words, is a historic castle in the town of Varberg, about 60 km south of Gothenburg in Sweden. The castle dates back to the late 13th century and has served as a defensive fortress, prison, and now as a popular tourist attraction over the centuries. This castle offers beautiful views of the surrounding area and the nearby sea, and visitors can see all the common features of such buildings, including the moats around the castle, which are full of water and the first defensive barrier against enemy attacks. Definitely the button (bullet) was one of the most interesting elements in the museum. It is incredible to know such a good deal of history by only this little object. If you can not read Swedish you may ask one the personnel therr to give some sort of a guide through the gallery. Do not miss to take some photographs is the room next to the reception. You can try sone of the medieval alphets there and sit on the little throne that is there. You may like to check the bone of the whale that is in the second floor. En mycket blåsig sommardag med regnet hängande i luften besökte jag berget och fästningen. Vi, jag och mitt sällskap, hade bokat biljetter till en visning av fästningen. Det finns flera olika visningar att välja mellan, och vissa av dem är dramatiserade. Vår visning var mer traditionell med en guide som berättar och beskriver. Vi var ganska tidigt på plats så vi hann både gå runt hela fästningen i "marknivå" s.a.s. och uppe på själva fästningsvallarna. Om man har små barn med sig tycker jag att man ska vara väldigt uppmärksam på var de befinner sig, för det är inte så väldigt tillrättalagt, vilket också är tydligt skyltat. Det finns en bra toalett (spartanskt, men fräscht) på vägen upp mot biljettluckan. Personalen var mycket duktig på att fint och vänligt påminna folk om pandemi-regler. Själva guidningen var väldigt bra! Guiden, en tjej, var mycket kunnig och hade väldigt bra koll på fakta. Men förutom det var hon väldigt duktig på att beskriva på ett engagerande sätt. En kul grej var att hon tilldelade oss som var på visningen olika roller. En fick vara drottning Blanka, någon annan fick vara Valdemar. Inte påträngande eller på ett sätt som kändes jobbigt eller utpekande, men på ett väldigt trevligt sätt. Det bästa med att delta i en visning är både att platsen blir levandegjord, men också att man ibland får se saker som är bakom lås och bom. Vi fick vandra ner för den spiralformade rampen till kasernerna där kanonerna en gång stått. Dofter, ljud, synintryck bidrog till en spännande upplevelse. På fästningsberget finns också vandrarhem (B&B?), en restaurang, smedja och ett museum. Vi sparade allt det till ett annat tillfälle, och hoppas kunna återkomma när vi slipper pandemirestriktioner....
