Is Lugano worth visiting? 100% if you are looking for a less overrun city with a wonderful blend of Italian, Swiss, and Mediterranean influences. I was completely blown over by the beauty and warmth of #Lugano as soon as I landed here. The annual food and wine festival #FestaDAutunno was going on. The three-day festival celebrates the autumn and takes place in early October in Lugano city centre. The alleys and piazzas of this town offered various Ticino gastronomic specialities, local wine, cheese, and much more. And to top of that, the town was filled with folklore music. It was the best welcome I could have ever imagined. Now coming to Lugano, located in the Italian-speaking Ticino canton of Switzerland, this vivacious city is bejewelled with posh designer boutiques, bars and pavement cafes huddling in the spaghetti maze of steep cobblestone streets that untangle at the edge of an enormous Lake – Lake Lugano, and a flowery promenade. There couldn’t have been a better venue for #ATWS2022 than Lugano. The city is an amazing potpourri of Italian and Swiss architecture and cuisine, lively squares and lakeside walks, fun shopping streets and colourful parks. Every part of the city is instagrammable. But my favourite spot was going to #MonteBrè taking the 1908 constructed funicular. Lugano will always be very special to me. Have you ever been blown away by any city lately? Monte Bre is a must visit for anyone in the wonderful city of Lugano. The views and the atmosphere at the top is so relaxing, the energy feels like an intense state of meditation with plenty of green spaces, very crisp air and moderate temperature. Compared to Mt San Salvatore, it's located at the north part of the city, has way more green areas so one can spend long time just chilling at the top laying on lush green grass or sitting by the many benches scattered around the top, it just felt way more relaxing and inviting. Just like Mt San Salvatore, the funicular is 25 min walk from the city center, and the ride to the top takes 10 min done on two stages (so expect a change of funicular in the middle and please do remember to book a return ticket because ticket office is not open all the time at the top, but one can always approach the funicular driver to purchase return ticket in case need be). Both monte bre and Mt San salvatore have a nice Resturant at the top to enjoy a light meal or drinks while taking in the remarkable views of lake lugano and adjacent mountain tops.

(+) Awesome views overlooking Lugano. (+) Fun funicular ride (not too expensive, 25 CHF pp both ways without half fare card). (+) Great Walking/ hiking/ biking trails. (-) The panoramic restaurant was not opened last weekend (9 January 2021), perhaps it's their opening schedule during winter time. (-) The osteria (bar/ cafe) up there was only offering limited drinks and also limited snacks (fries and sausages). perhaps it is different during summer time (will have to visit again for sure) (-) It would've been great if the funicular had panoramic windows (from the front) so that passengers can see the lovely views going up/ down. *** Most certainly would like to visit again, perhaps during summer time and take my time to walk down to near by small cute cities.
