Without a doubt my favorite part of Geneva! Feels a bit weird to say since I also enjoyed the more common things to do here (eg watch museums) but despite not being a skateboarder and being a big watch enthusiast, this museum was still the highlight.
First of all the owners are extremely nice and lovely people who are super passionate about this subject. It was a lot of fun to learn about the movement with them.
Secondly the museum itself is very interesting with some lovely historic pieces that truly entitle it to the name "museum". Many of their works have a fascinating backstory that make this a better collection than many other museums I have been to. In fact, when you visit I would specifically suggest you ask about the Star Wars collection and the "F- TPG" board in particular.
Finally, this museum also clearly goes out of its way to positively impact its community which is important to me. When we were there they were utilizing local artists for a...
Read moreMy family and I had a wonderful time here. The owner is truly passionate about skating, and is a Gen Xer, so totally identified with me. He teaches skating and hosts a number of skate clubs in Geneva. He personally led us floor by floor, room by room to each exhibit in the museum (a three story house). Each room holds a different theme or period, such as the 60s-70s, 80s, 90s, etc. They charge nothing for admission and he interacts with you personally, is great with kids and very patient with questions. They don't ask for donations, but they do sell their own branded t-shirts (we bought some great ones), as well as boards and equipment for skaters. Also gives you a gift of branded stickers when you leave. Can't recommend enough when visiting. Also, we were staying close to the lake and decided to walk (it was a bright sunny day), it did turned out to be a hike but we saw a lot of the city we wouldn't otherwise see and it took about 40...
Read moreThe Skateboard Museum in Geneva is one of a kind. Jim has built an incredible space filled with the most impressive collection of skateboards I have ever seen. Every wall, shelf and corner is packed with history, rare gems and iconic pieces that shaped skateboarding over the years.
What stands out just as much as the boards is the passion behind it. Jim knows the story behind every setup and is always ready to share it. You can feel how much he cares about skateboarding and how much time and love went into building this place.
It is not just a museum, it is a living archive of skate culture. A place that reminds you where skateboarding comes from and why we all fell in love with it in the...
