Säntis — Attraction in Wildhaus-Alt St. Johann

Here's my take on the Sternzauberabend experience I received as a gift.

Despite its enticing name, it didn't live up to expectations. The gift certificate provided monetary value, so in hindsight, I should have used it to ascend during the daytime with my BF.

Having visited Säntis previously, I know that there are abundance of engaging activities centered around understanding weather, making the daytime ticket price truly worthwhile. What is also cool is that the cable car offers a close-up encounter with the mountain, which is amazing.

The evening begins with an aperitif, a pleasant touch while awaiting the cable car ascent. However, the nighttime setting obscures much of the scenery, particularly on cloudy nights like the one we experienced, devoid of stars. The deck, albeit accessible, proves uncomfortably windy and chilly (especially in the first week of February), making it difficult to appreciate the vistas. Moreover, the closely arranged tables evoke a Valentine's Day ambiance rather than an intimate mountain experience.

Regarding the cuisine, it falls short of expectations. The four-course meal resembles that of a middling 2-3 star hotel, with some dishes lacking in flavor.

For first-time visitors to Säntis, the Sternzauberabend might hold some appeal, but personally, I would have preferred investing the money in daytime activities, relishing the panoramic views and indulging in coffee and cake...

The view is magnificent. The mountains look beautiful when it comes to sunset watching and at night. Especially when there is a full moon, special exit permits are given. But they all have separate fees. For example, daytime cable car fee is 54 fr. 50 euro. This fee is huge, but when you get to the top, you forget everything. Being above the clouds, watching the frozen lakes, watching the alpine mountains, watching mountain goats, watching...

Es war der aufregendste Aufstieg zum Berg. Ich startete von der Schwägalp zur Himmelstreppe und von dort zum Endpunkt Säntis . Der Aufstieg ist nicht einfach und etwas für Leute mit starken Nerven und starkem Kopf. Jede Menge Adrenalin und Emotionen auf der ganzen Strecke. Überirdische Schönheit, einzigartige Natur. Ich ging und dachte, wie klein wir vor dieser natürlichen Schöpfung sind. Es gab Abschnitte, in denen noch Schnee lag, da ist noch mehr Aufmerksamkeit geboten. Der Aufstieg war der aufregendste und extremste, den ich je gemacht habe. Viel Adrenalin und Emotionen. Eine Besonderheit ist der Säntisgipfel! Von Gmeinenwisen führt der Weg steil hinauf zur Felsenbastei Musfallen. Der Weg führt dann weiter über einen breiten Streifen Gras und Geröll, bevor er einer Klippe folgt. Stufen und Stufen führen zu einem traditionellen Berggasthaus. Den Markierungen folgend, die zwischen Trichtern und Rissen zum Hangfuß unterhalb des Girensattels und am Grat selbst entlang führen. Ich passierte den blauen Schnee und erreichte den Gipfel des Klettersteigs „Himmelsleiter“, der zum Ziel führt – dem Säntis. Und wenn man oben ist, sieht man die Schweiz, Deutschland, Österreich, Liechtenstein, Italien und Frankreich. Das Oberteil ist etwas Besonderes – ja, und das ist es für mich geworden. Und auf dem Rückweg bin ich einfach in den Lift...
