Great place to spend an afternoon with kids. We learned about first century Roman life and had lots of fun exploring the reconstructed barracks. There are opportunities to bake bread, mix a Roman tea, play ancient games or make a ceramic oil lamp.
The main attraction are the audio-guide assisted tours through the area. There are several of those to choose from, depending on age group and duration (1.5 to over 3 hours). An intricate audio drama guides you from station to station, complete with recurring characters and dramatic tension. We did the Gladiators tour with children aged 6 and 7 and the 90min duration and short hike to the amphitheatre were spot on.
Tip: bring food for a picknick along as the food selection is on the light side. A fire with grill is provided. Salads can be bought in the shop. Bake...
🇬🇧Sometimes the most obvious thing slips through your fingers. Although we have been living nearly next door for almost 8 years now, we never visited the legionnaire's trail in Vindonissa (today Windisch). What a mistake. We are thrilled. With an audio guide, puzzle maps, game plan and our own legionnaire's passport, we traveled back to Roman times with the time machine and plunged into the task of securing the water supply for Vindonissa. This game and theme tour is called "Become a Roman" and takes about 3 hours. It leads across the old Roman camp. And yes we solved the riddle. The other tours are shorter and can be played in 45 to 120 minutes depending on the tour. If you like geocache, foxtrail or other detective search games or if you want to dive deep into the life in the old Vindonissa you will love the Legionnaires' trail (a part of the Museum Aargau). And so I wish you a nice Sunday evening and a good start of...
Read moreSuch a cool place to visit. Even with small children, there‘s plenty to do and experience. The sights are strewn all across the (former) Roman town, you get access to the ruins of the former bath houses with a badge. The people dressing up as Romans do go out of their way to make you feel like back in the days. We grilled sausages (which you can buy at the shop) over the fire, helped the staff putting up the flags of the legion and tried on the armor which was on display. Absolutely...
