Rating our sleepover experience. We just recently had our sleepover.

While the guides were helpful, especially the female head guide on duty at night, the entire program was boring. It should target their program to marine enthusiasts or anyone above 16 years old.

Otherwise, kids will be bored since many of the activities were not hands on, but more of a lecture type. Particularly when we went behind the scenes to feed the fish, there was more talk time from the guide than the actual feeding time.

Don’t expect this program to be luxurious it is anything but. It felt more like a bootcamp where you have to follow their schedule even though my daughter’s already tired and sleepy at 8pm, we had to wait for everyone to gather around and for the guides to lead us to where we could pick our spots. We were able to sleep at around 11.30pm already. Call time the next morning was 7am. Definitely there was lack of sleep on our part. We were expected to rise and roll our beds ASAP. There was even another sleepover participant who was grumpy when i asked if she could take our photo while we beds were still undone. She declined and said she’ll take our photo after she goes to the restrooms. This goes to show how unhappy even local Taiwanese are with this program.

Shower room is decent. Toilet rooms in the ground floor are dirty. We can see how old and dated the structure already is and they just managed to renovate some parts of it.

The food is the typical food what you can find in any other half decent museums in the world. Definitely something you shouldn’t look forward to.

Overall, not a good experience. It was tiring and boring. They must’ve opened this program just to earn more profits because there aren’t even many people during the day so they must have had to compensate for revenues at night.

Not recommending this to anyone.

PS: It wasn’t mentioned that we’ll be sleeping in pitch blackness. Because in photos shown online, we’ll be sleeping next to illuminated aquariums. Nope, they turn off literally ALL the lights by 11pm. You’re sleeping next to a...

Walla this is possibly one of the many interesting places that captivates me and worth every penny of it visiting in Kaohsiung. This is definitely a marine park and not a museum as stated.

As for visitor and especially tourist like myself, coming to visit such places is full of energetic vibes brings out the holidaying mood in you. If you make a comparison, there's no differentiation between genders or age for that matter, everyone looks excited and eager in a sense to venture more. We are part of this world, by learning and understanding marine life brings a balance between us.

This place is huge and the many attractions it offers really mesmerized me. The beauty displayed of seeing actual live fishes, sea corals, sea weeds and other sea mammals intrigues and magnetised the feeling.

The entrance fees of NT250/- is worth cents of it. This place opens at am in the morning and closes at. pm in the evening. There are several ways to get there either, by road or train and the journey by road is about 3 hours depending on the flow of traffic and weather condition.

Once you're there the whole scenario changes for the better even more so when you're inside the marine park. The beauty of the marine life brings about another chapter of entertainment. Believe me when you're so intrigued by the live performances, everything else is forgotten.

Never miss this piece of attraction if you're there for a couple of days. Will be a great lost if you miss this piece of attraction. Have fun and enjoy yourself.

Very good aquarium in Taiwan even in Asia. Friendly staffs and good restaurants inside the park!

More input from its website for your reference!

In 1991, the preparatory office of the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium(NMMBA) was formally established, the hard and tough scheming and construction work were then begun…., the opening of the Waters of Taiwan was finally finished on February 25th, 2000 after numerous efforts and frustrations, we formally stepped toward the infinite field of international marine education and research since then.

Under the multiple functional thinking of the museum affairs, the NMMBA also approaches the overall promotion of community, entertainment, international and so forth other than the upgrading of the educational, academic and conservational aspects. In July, 2000, the Aquarium Department of the museum was consigned to Hi-Scene World Enterprise for professional operation and management after screening. This not only initiated the first case of consigning the national social educational agency to outside operation, but also implemented thoroughly the cooperation concept for professional division of labor.

The NMMBA introduced the Waters of the World covering the global waters and ancient ocean with the method of combining the aquarium and all digital images following the openings of the Waters of Taiwan and the Coral Kingdom Pavilion. All progresses were finished at the end of 2007, which made the NMMBA the best...

Went for the Sleepover activity which was something I’ve never experienced before. Staffs and facilities were great! Activity: had a private tour of the place, looking at different enclosures including a behind the scenes to access the aquariums, dinner & breakfast were provided. We slept at the Shark display which were pitch black. If you want some night light, I’d recommend sleeping at the Kelp Forest or Beluga. The next morning, we got a private fish feeding demo and then explored the beach to find starfish and hermit crabs. After that, you’re free to roam the place as you’ve technically already paid for the entrance ticket. Facilities: they had lockers and shower rooms with hair dryer, shower gel and shampoo. Gotta bring slippers to use in the shower room. Lockers has a NTD 10 refundable mechanism. Service: the staff were really friendly with kids and very knowledgeable. They were also very attentive to our diet restrictions and very accommodating. The only minus point was that the entire briefing and explanation are done in Mandarin so we didn’t really understand (luckily we were traveling with a friend who spoke the language so he translated for us). If they could provide like audio translation, it’d be great. Summary: Great experience - would recommend this! 🤩

It was a nice space with some informative displays about marine life and nice sculpture. However watching “Bubu” the lone Beluga whale swim in concentric circles and hit his head on the same window over and over again while visions were gawking and taking photos was very heart breaking to watch. Belugas are highly social and self aware animals and it did not feel like a healthy environment for this creature. I hope there is a solution of releasing Bubu to the wild or caring for the health of this beautiful creature much better. (Or ending having whales at this museum all together.) I think where this place was once a wealth of marine information, it needs to study how aquatic centres around the world have updated to capture and release programs so that the public can learn and better understands a beneficial relationship between humans and ocean. (ie. the gift shops and food stalls sell no sustainable products and have merch in plastic that contributes to the demise of ocean life.) I am not extreme activist or extremist, but I do hope that there steps taken to update how the museum cares for its wildlife and teaches the visitors more about their role and responsibility in the ocean’s sustainability by first setting the best example through its practices.
