Wan cafe — Restaurant in Checheng

At approximately 5pm on a Saturday afternoon, I found the Wan Cafe. It was the liveliest, most interesting and most inviting spot along Houwan Beach. My wife and three children were on the beach so my plan was to surprise them with something delectable and this seemed to be the place. The cafe was buzzing and marvellous deserts, treats and coffee drinks were being liberally dished up. The chalk board menu and warm enticing aroma also indicated that pizza was being served. A sign suggested there might even be beer. There were no free tables and no obvious queue. The menu was all in (presumably) mandarin though snippets of English could be heard from the crowd. The staff numbered approximately five or six and appeared to be young (20s-30s), energetic and pleasant. I am a European man in my 40s. I was dressed in sandals, shorts and a beach shirt. With my translated text order in hand, I waited quietly and politely to one side to regard the menu (which I did not understand) and to try to pick up on a cue on how to order. There was no obvious system or queue. I re-positioned myself in front of the cash register and waited for one of the many staff to catch me in the rotation or even just to acknowledge me and assure or direct me on how the place worked. There are times when you get the sense that you are just in the wrong place. This was one of them. Nobody acknowledged me. Nobody invited an order or suggested they would get to me soon as they could. Nobody wildly gesticulated to communicate that I was standing at the service hatch. Nothing - just polite indifference. We went here in between our team tour. It is about 3-4 mins by car from the aquarium, and you can enjoy the ocean view and japanese style desserts with well-brewed coffee. Also, we had a trouble heading back to the aquarium because kenting is pretty hard to call the taxi by Uber. The staff of the cafe kindly helped us calling the taxi driver, and we were able to come back to the aquarium on time. Thank you for your service and perfectly done dishes! Fashionable beach cafe with superb ocean view on the second floor, has many seats for groups, good for a quick coffee or enjoy the sunset with snacks if you are in the Chechen area. Probably crowded and hard to find parking on weekends though, would recommend coming here on weekdays before going...
