Guihou Fishing Harbor — Attraction in New Taipei

Great place for seafood that is frequented by locals and tourists alike.

Do pop-by at the Guihou fish market for some fresh seafood. It might get daunting because there will be many vendors selling similar products and some can be quite aggressive. So ALWAYS ask for the price before purchasing the seafood.

Do note that, upon purchasing the seafood, EACH seafood will also be charged (at least) an additional 150TWD or more as a "cooking fee".

Overall, the prices can add up if you are not mindful. For about 3500TWD (Seafood n cooking fee) We had a steamed grouper, 6 abalone, a generous portion of phoenix whelks, 2 steamed crabs, fried rice and some drinks. Although slightly steep for general Taiwanese food standards, the price for seafood was pretty reasonable in comparison to where im from.

Depends on what you like. Partly, it's just a harbor and there are lots of those almost every few miles around Taiwan. It does have a market, like most do, but this one is clearly focused on tourists and does pretty well at that. It is clean and doesn't smell overly "fishy." You can see a large variety of seafood and you can take it home or you can ask them to cook it on the 2nd floor to eat it there. If you like sashimi, there are a couple of places that specialize in that. The building is new and still partly under construction (and fully wheelchair accessible) and there is an outdoor patio upstairs, but that seems poorly designed. Nice fishing village for fresh seafood.

Restaurants nearby are for tourists. The food is home cooked food with very friendly chefs who will come out and talk with customers. Most restaurants are small and accommodates only 4 or 5 tables. Most of the time only one table is filled.

The prices are a bit more expensive than typical Taiwan restaurants even in Taipei 5 star restaurants.
