The temple worships Goddess Matsu (also spelled as Mazu) and God of Heaven, while it also worships other folklore deities at the rear area of the temple. Matsu was considered by many Taiwanese, especially fishermen from the 18th century, as their protector on the sea.
The temple seems to emphasize so much on religious deity and ceremony worship, and they were closely connected to lightening service and lightening lanterns activities, because lihtening lanterns were donated by merchants and other non- merchant locals in ceremony events.
Contrary to nearby Sanxia Temple, the temple does not have much religious or artistic sculptures. But, it has numerous lanterns and other lightning designs.
The temple is in very short walking distance from Sanxia Temple and Old Street market.
The temple provides free incenses and worship paper for the worshippers, while it also sell worship protection elblems to the believers based on their birth year. Temple also follows some folklore temple tradition by giving worshipped candy free to the visitors as good luck jesture and goodwill.
