9 points to note before visiting Gaomei Wetlands: An Enchanting Sunset Experience

A highly recommended destination, Gaomei Wetlands offers one of the most breathtaking sunsets you will ever witness. Prepare to be captivated by its beauty.

Before embarking on your journey, it is advisable to check the weather conditions, sunset time, and tidal information. I personally had to reschedule my visit due to a forecast of rain and foggy skies. The following day proved to be a perfect opportunity to witness the sunset in all its glory.

It is advisable to come prepared with a water and windproof jacket, accompanied by a hat. The strong winds can persist for extended periods, and I found myself standing for 90 minutes battling the continuous gusts.

Don't forget to bring a pair of sunglasses to shield your eyes from the intense and shining setting sun. They prove to be quite helpful during this mesmerizing experience.

Begin your journey by strolling along the wooden bridge, which takes approximately 10 minutes to reach its furthest point. Enjoy the scenic views and embrace the tranquility of the wetlands.

The adventure doesn't end at the bridge's edge. Consider taking off your shoes and socks, and venture into the muddy ground as you make your way towards the setting sun. You may opt to bring an extra pair of plastic slippers or even go barefoot.

Bring a towel for the wet and muddy feet.

I recommend arriving at least an hour before the scheduled sunset time. This allows you to find a suitable spot without arriving too early or missing the magical moment.

Transportation options are available, including parking lots for those driving. Alternatively, Uber taxis and buses are convenient choices, albeit with a travel time of over 30 minutes back to central Taichung.

Gaomei Wetlands promises an enchanting experience, where nature's beauty unfolds before your eyes. From the mesmerizing sunset to the invigorating winds, this destination offers a memorable escape from the bustle...

Beautiful place, nice and clean. It was slightly foggy when I went, with a bit of wind. However, it was quite enjoyable. The walk down the board walk out into the ocean was fun. Saw many kids and couples doing it too. You could walk further into the sea (at low tide), and check out what the local oyster farmers are up to. If you didn't bring the appropriate footwear to do so, you can walk barefooted into the sea. Or you can buy some thongs/sandals from the local vendors.

There are nearby stray dogs but they tend to keep to themselves. Try not to feed them (even though they're adorable) because it would cause them to expect food from humans. And if one day, they don't get the food, they might attack. Remember there are small children and families that visit such a place.

Looking into the distance to appreciate the wind turbines, was fun too. i didn't even hear the motors...

Oh! As you walk down the board walk, you can appreciate the change in the ecosystem. As depicted by the types of mini crabs ahaha.

But beware because you can't get off the board walk (until the very end) and step into the nearby wetlands. It is possible you get fined.

Tip: park near the temple cos parking...
