So this is a nice spot to visit to watch the sunset near Taichung. It’s a bit of a drive from the city center, at about 45 minutes away.

Honestly, it’s beautiful, yes. But if you’re looking to be in the city itself and explore, this place may not be for you. It’s a long ride to just watch the sunset over the ocean with open skies.

If you’re hungry, there are a few small food stands and a couple restaurants across the road from the viewing area on the water.

Am I glad I went? Sure. Would I go again? Probably not. Feels mostly like an instagramable spot at sunset for just a few minutes.

This area comprises a bridge over a rather polluted looking estuary that nonetheless seems to be full of fish. The bridge is positioned to give good views along a line of about 12 wind turbines. Good photo opportunity. From the bridge, it’s less than a 5 minute drive to the “main” area based around a 700 metre boardwalk over tidal mud flats. These are infested with fiddler crabs, and other crustacea. As the tide comes in, large numbers of fish follow the waters edge hunting the crabs, which fascinates both adults and children.
