Proud to say I believe I was the only American tourist to have visited this temple during my trip, and I can confidently say it is the best temple I've seen in Taiwan so far.

Wanhe Temple is a truly special place, a hidden gem off the typical tourist path that offers an authentic and deeply moving spiritual experience. Stepping through its gates feels like discovering a secret, a place where local traditions and devotion are palpable and unfiltered.

During my visit, I was fortunate enough to witness an incredible Daoist-Buddhist ceremony. The air was filled with the rhythmic chant of prayers, the scent of incense, and a profound sense of reverence. It was a spectacle of cultural and religious richness that was both beautiful and inspiring. The entire experience felt personal and meaningful, and it allowed me to connect with the local culture in a way that simply isn't possible at more crowded, commercialized sites.

在台中，如果你想找一個能同時感受信仰力量與歲月溫度的地方，萬和宮會是個很好的起點。它不只是香火鼎盛的媽祖廟，更像是一座陪伴城市成長的老朋友，靜靜地在巷弄間守候了三百多年。當地人習慣親切地稱這裡的主神為「犁頭媽」，因為廟的舊地名叫「犁頭店」。也因此，萬和宮不只是祭祀的中心，更是許多人共同的記憶與情感歸屬。

萬和宮是台中四大媽祖廟之一，也是全市最古老的廟宇。其中最具特色的宗教活動，莫過於老二媽與聖二媽的繞境與字姓戲。繞境又被稱作「省親繞境」，相傳老二媽為西屯人士廖品娘附靈，因而每三年便會回到西屯故居烈美堂與族人團聚。特別的是，老二媽與聖二媽分成兩路而行，為的是照顧更多信眾。最後在清靈宮會合後，再一同回駕，這份設計既體貼又充滿深意。

除了媽祖，廟中還陪祀眾多神明。信徒們常常能看到關聖帝君前整齊擺放的小孩衣物，或是文昌帝君案頭上堆疊的准考證，這些畫面都是信眾將心意寄託於神明的溫柔縮影，也更顯示出廟宇深切的關懷。

萬和宮的建築數百年來歷經多次整修，卻依然保有原有的風貌。廟內的匾額極具歷史價值，例如「福蔭全臺」是台中最古老的匾額，來自西元1732年，至今仍靜靜懸掛於廟樑之上。不過其位置較為隱晦，需要將目光由非常醒目的「得媲媧皇」匾額往後方移動方可一睹其面貌。後者保存自1886年，與周圍的古物相互輝映。另一個不可錯過的亮點便是磚雕藝術。門框上的花紋、土地公與城隍爺下方磚櫃的立體磚雕，都展現了工匠的巧思與技藝，至今仍令人讚嘆。而不管是磚櫃本體或兩側磚牆，都大量採用了較一般磚頭更為耐用的煙炙磚，也難怪在經歷風風雨雨後保存狀況依舊非常良好。

萬和宮的結構也處處充滿細節，看似對稱的建築乃是左右對場作的暗中較勁。當中三川殿的身堵窗花，分別由不同工匠展現獨有的巧思；後殿的交趾陶對聯，更是對場工藝的直球比拚，其中右側的竹葉字對聯尤其罕見。而屋脊上的「龍馬負河圖」更是本島唯一，與兩側祥龍相互輝映，展現了極高的藝術價值。
