Xiaoqilai Trail — Attraction in Xiulin

The Xiao Qilai Trail is the first section of the Qilai Peak Hiking Trail. This section of the trail is relatively gentle, only 1.4 kilometers long, and is suitable for general short-distance hiking. 前往黑色奇萊途中會先經過的小景點 站在小奇萊山上 可見奇萊連峰 及小奇萊大草原

太魯閣國家公園網頁介紹如下 步道入口位於合歡山遊客服務中心前的公路旁，循著合歡東峰坡面而開，一路緩坡而下，先是寬如產業道路的路面，沿途可以眺望奇萊東稜、鋸山、羊頭山及立霧溪上游溪谷。經過滑雪山莊再往前行，路面漸縮，然後轉入狹窄的登山小徑，立即進入二、三公尺高的玉山箭竹林及挺直蔽天的台灣冷杉林。進入冷杉林之後，時而上坡時而下坡，翻過幾個小山頭，穿過幾片冷杉林後，最後到達一片廣袤的玉山箭竹原，層層山坡起伏如波浪一般，這便是「小奇萊」。 箭竹原是小奇萊步道的終點，續向前行是通往奇萊連峰的登山步道，路途遙遠，需有充足的裝備及預先辦妥入山入園手續才可進入，可在小奇萊箭竹原休憩賞景後再循原路折返。

地質簡介 小奇萊步道是視野開闊，有水窪凹地，也有兩個小山頭，最高點海拔3150公尺。造成小奇萊坡度平緩及凹地的原因，是若干年前森林大火後，受到大雨的沖蝕，陡峭的山坡土石崩落堆積所形成。站在小奇萊可以回望合歡山，而奇萊連峰則橫列在眼前，天氣晴朗時甚至可以遠眺玉山主峰。小奇萊地形屬合歡山與奇萊山之間的稜脊，山稜兩側均為山谷地形，東面谷地為立霧溪上游的源頭，西側則是濁水溪源頭，這裡也正是二溪的分水嶺。

生態環境 小奇萊步道在進入冷杉林之前，沿途植物以高山芒為主，其間夾有虎杖、高山薔薇等灌叢；冷杉林之中，陰暗且潮濕，除了少數極力長得高大爭取陽光的玉山箭竹外，可見耐陰嗜濕的苔蘚及植物。在兩片森林之間，可以照射到較多的陽光，常見的是玉山杜鵑、台灣刺柏等灌叢及低矮的高山植物。

觀察重點 水晶蘭 夏天在小奇萊步道幽暗鬱悶的森林底層，仔細觀察將有機會發現一種全株晶瑩剔透白如水晶的植物，幽然地從森林最陰暗的角落裡探出頭來，開出同樣是白色半透明的花朵，彷彿輕輕一碰就要碎掉一般，這種植物就是水晶蘭。

觀察重點 錫杖花 錫杖花全株淡黃色，常生長於箭竹林底下，它和水晶蘭最大的差別是錫杖花每一株莖上會開出數朵花，而水晶蘭則只會在莖的頂端開出一朵花。

觀察重點 玉山箭竹 夏天到小奇萊一片翠綠的玉山箭竹令人賞心悅目，據研究，小奇萊原是臺灣冷杉的分佈地，後來至發生四次或五次以上的森林火災，火災燒毀了臺灣冷杉和玉山箭竹，但被燒死的玉山箭竹地下莖則在火災後四處延展，使玉山箭竹的族群得以繼續繁衍。

觀察重點 朽木再生 走在小奇萊步道茂密的黑森林下，有時會看到枯木直立或橫倒在步道上。從人的觀點看來，朽木或許沒有用處，但在自然中卻是重要的角色，一棵樹的生與死，都是生態循環的一部份，維持自然的環境，朽木也是很重要的。

觀察重點 台灣茶藨子 台灣茶藨子最讓人印象深刻的，應該是它在秋天時結出一顆顆紅色圓球狀的漿果，垂掛在細長的枝條，看起來好像是大紅燈籠高高掛。
