I booked to stay at the Rohat Hotel in Dushanbe between 28 and 30 March, as part of my quest to visit every country in the world. After making my reservation online, the hotel emailed asking if I'd like to take advantage of their airport pick-up service, which allowed me to avoid the scrum of taxi drivers waiting to pounce in the arrivals area (a common hazard for the frequent traveller!). Timi from the hotel was waiting for me, and was an ever-present throughout my stay. Nothing was too much trouble for Timi or any of his colleagues, whether it was information about tours or bars, or simply to remind me of the breakfast hours. The room I had - second floor at the back - was extremely comfortable and well-presented, and the shower was excellent and powerful. The wifi worked perfectly throughout my entire stay. Breakfast was a lot better than I expected for the price (this hotel is very good value) with local and western hot options, as well as cheeses, meats, breads, cereals, yogurts and a wide selection of fruit juices, in addition to the usual tea and coffee. Dushanbe isn't a huge city, but the hotel is well-located, with the all main attractions walkable. The National Museum and Victory Park were both between 30 and 40 minutes walk away, and trolleybus number one up and down the main street is useful for slightly longer journeys. The city centre felt safe at all times. To sum up, next time I visit Dushanbe, I'll certainly stay here again, as I reckon the value is unbeatable and the staff are great.||||P.S. They also drove me back to the airport at the end of my stay, which I wasn't expecting but was much...

They assured me the water would return soon. After a bit the towels came — fresh from the washing machine and still dripping wet. I suggested dry towels might be preferable so they took them away to dry. Three different people came to show me how to operate the television. Soon they all agreed it was broken and couldn’t be repaired or replaced. So no TV for two nights. The water did eventually come on. The comfortable-enough king-sized bed had twin-sized bedding. ||When we returned from dinner the teapot had disappeared. I called and it was replaced. ||The next morning all was fine. We slept close together and managed to stay under the narrow quilt. The water pressure was low but hot. Breakfast was minimal but adequate. ||When we returned after visiting Dushanbe, the room was untouched by housekeeping-no replacement tea or towels and an unmade bed. Of more concern was that we had neither electricity nor water. So much for that shower we had planned. The new front desk lady explained that the water was off because of construction in the area and would return by 1800. I found a circuit breaker outside our door, flipped it and the electricity came on. A half-hour later a gentleman came to fix the electricity. ||I would highly recommend seeking...
