Meru Mbega Lodge was our first stop in TZ after flying into Kilimandscharo Intl. Airport and it was absolutely the right choice. Nestled in the lush green hills just outside Arusha National Park it is a perfect spot to arrive in a different culture, get used to local customs, enjoy the green scenery and the friendliness of its people. Mbega is not luxury, it is cozy, relaxed and just right. I very much enjoyed the many options in the beautiful and vast gardens to sit, relax, read my book and get inspired by the beautiful colors of its flowers, bushes and trees as well as the vast array of birds around. The lodge offers an open spaced restaurant, pool, gameroom and my personal highlight - a watchtower right in the midst of the forrest - stunning. We took a fascinating walking safari by one of the lodge's hosts, which led us to see age old fig trees, all kinds of brush and bushes, many mbega monkeys and much much more. We'll be back...

An overpriced, simple lodge near the entry to Arusha National Park. The main area, built in traditional African style, is pleasant and comfortable. It is also the restaurant, bar, and sole WiFi area here. Camping area is available. Grounds are lush and pleasant. There is a tower that overlooks the park from which animals may or may not be seen. Rooms are very simple but are clean and spacious. Bathroom sinks have no hot water. Windows have screens but no glass. No TV, AC, or fans in the rooms. Pool is small and old. The restaurant was overpriced and disappointing, despite the best efforts of the staff, who were friendly and helpful. No restaurants within walking distance. Cash only. No ATM within walking distance.

We were welcomed by Teresa, who was an exceptionally kind host. She looked after us straight away, made us feel at ease and listened to our every need. The staff were equally pleasant and helpful whenever possible (thanks also to Goodwin). The food is very good, with excellent value for money. There's a delightful floral scent from the main driveway to the accommodation. The site is well-maintained and various animals such as monkeys and squirrels can be seen. It was a relaxing stay surrounded by nature. Some areas for improvement: availability of wifi in the accommodation (the restaurant is the only place where it is available) and lighting.

Where should I start to praise this beautiful paradise spot on the border of Arusha national park?

Lovely friendly staff Lovely friendly owner (half German/half Tanzanian) Possibility to go on walks in neigbouring forest and area with an enthousiastic guide who takes pride in his work and culture Possibility to book safari Creatively build lodge with an eye for detail The best hot shower ever :-) Cosy bungalows African style decorated Neatly kept garden and property where you can wander around Organic freshly made food (early order because they get everything from local suppliers) Nice tiny swimming pool A watchtower from which you can overlook Arusha park area and Mount Meru and have a 'chill and drink'

And of course our furry friend Pamba the dog

We felt very much at home and would have loved to stay a bit longer!

Guess we have to come back ;-)

Asante...
