I do not usually take the time to write reviews but I feel strongly about this one. This business charges 200 baht for foreigners to enter the market. We had asked the ticket person if the boat was coming soon as we are traveling with 3 families with kids. We only wanted to enter if the boat was available and we were guaranteed to have a boat ride. We were told that it was going to take 40 minutes for the boat to come. After about 50 minutes, we asked the ticket person again on how long it would take. She said 10 more minutes. After 15 minutes, we checked again. She said 10 more minutes. After another 20 minutes, we asked for a refund. After 5 minutes of going back and forth with the ticket person, the boat came. They said we should just board the boat since it arrived and that we would have priority since we had been waiting. That was not the case as others boarded the boat too. Once we were in the boat, it started to flood with water. Our family and the other tourists on the boat had to get off as it was starting to sink. We then asked for our refund and they still did not give it back. All in all, as much as we tried to give grace and patience to this situation, it was a very bad experience leaving our family, especially this children, very disappointed. They got hopes up. The boat is in horrible condition. And it just is not worth the experience. This is a beautiful country with beautiful people. This floating market is not a good...
Read moreThis was a great experience! I'd read reviews of it being inauthentic and overpriced. It is 200 baht for foreigner entry (though I must admit, I got in free because I'm teaching in Thailand), but looking back, I'd totally pay it. We didn't take the boat ride immediately, instead walking around first. Definitely go when you are hungry! There are great snacks that are hard to find elsewhere and samples as well! There are the standard tourist clothes, but also stores for less typical clothing and goods. I didn't think they were unreasonably priced (I'd also read reviews about them being 3 to 4 times more expensive than they should be, but I actually found some items for as cheap anywhere I've seen in Thailand). I didn't think as highly of the meal options, and if I were to do it again, I probably would stick to snack foods. We finished off the market with the boat tour. It took about 10 minutes, and it was very enjoyable. They don't really have a "program" on the boat, so it's just for seeing the sights. Lovely market and lovely snacks! Go when your hungry and spend a few hours enjoying the shade and breeze. It is expensive, but take your time and...
Read moreI visited Ayothaya Floating Market on a weekday and was disappointed by what I encountered. The market was almost completely empty—there were literally no vendors in operation, which made it feel very deserted.
One of the biggest letdowns was the fee: foreigners are charged 200 baht just for entry. It seems unreasonable to impose this fee when there’s hardly anything to see or do, and the market is notably underwhelming. With such an entrance fee, one would expect the area to be well-maintained and bustling with activity, but that certainly wasn’t the case.
The overall condition of the market was quite poor. The place is old and shows little sign of proper upkeep or management. It’s disappointing to see that despite charging an entry fee, there isn’t a corresponding effort to maintain or improve the facilities for visitors.
In summary, my visit to Ayothaya Floating Market was far from impressive. With no active vendors and a lack of care in maintaining the site, the high entry fee for foreigners only adds to the frustration. I hope that the management takes these concerns seriously and works to improve the experience for...
