This is quite a ride for me, but I was invited to come out to see some Muay Thai which is held here, so I took the long trek from Talat Phlu. This is a large, very nice, well lit, clean and organized local market right next to the Mall at Bang Kapi. By local market I mean its not frequented by tourists, although you do find foreigners who live in the area here. It has the usual stalls with clothing, shoes, cell phones, accessories, kitchen stuff, hardware, nail shops, hair stuff and the like. All are reasonably priced, some may be knock offs, but you arent going to be here looking for Vuiton, are you. You will do better here for stuff than in Patpong or the tourist markets, but its out of the way. I was actually pretty impressed by how well it was lit and the cleanliness. At night, food carts are in front of the building and along the side, the food is very good and reasonably priced. They even had a band, beer stall and the like. I loaded a few pics of the night action. There are a lot of Thai Muslims out here so there is Halal food. For tourists who want to see a local market with local prices and local people, just hop on the San Saeb Canal Boat and ride it out to the Pier at the Mall at Bang Kapi, the Market is right next door. The boats cost 19 baht, but stop running at 7pm. So to get back to the tourist side of town at night, just go to the Taxi Desk in front of the Mall and queue up for a cab to Lat Phrao MRT, 100Baht, or if the Mall is closed, just grab a cab on Lat Phrao Road. Read moreI went to Tawanna Market, and it's a treasure trove of, well, everything! 🤩 I came ready to hunt for some bargains, and let me tell you, this place is a chaotic, colorful, and completely captivating experience!
I visited this market hoping to find some unique finds, and I was not disappointed. From clothes and accessories to household goods and street food that smelled divine, it was a feast for the senses! 🍜👗 I felt like I should have brought a bigger bag (and maybe a translator!) 🗣️ (I didn't, but I was tempted to buy a second one there!)
However, let’s be real – even for a seasoned market-goer like myself, a place this packed can sometimes feel like a real-life game of "dodge the elbows". 😅 And while the shopping is undeniably fun, my feet definitely felt a bit tired afterwards. All that walking makes it hard to resist a quick foot massage! 👣💆♀️
Overall, if you're looking for a shopping experience that's authentic, exciting, and maybe a little bit overwhelming, Tawanna Market is a must-visit! It's bustling, it's diverse, and you're guaranteed to find something you didn't even know you needed (or at least something delicious to eat!). I came away feeling like I'd just survived a shopping jungle, even if I sometimes felt like I was participating in a synchronized bargaining session with a hundred other enthusiastic shoppers. Just remember to bring your haggling skills, and maybe a friend to help you navigate the...
