are is a tegend behind the name of this mountain. King Viranga. ruler of the ancient Lanna \gdom oi Chiang Mai wanted to marry the glamorous Queen Chamadevi of Hariphunchai ngdom (Lamphun). She wasn't keen. so she set him a challenge. He had 3 chances to throw iaveiin from Chiang Mai to Hariphunchai Kingdom. Viranga's first spear landed just outside ier city watts. so in panic. she sent him a jinxed turban which unbeknownst to him would acuatty sap his strength. Sure enough. proudly wearing his new hat.
