Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Pattaya is an exceptional destination for wildlife enthusiasts and families alike. Spanning over a vast area, the zoo offers visitors an immersive experience with a wide variety of animals and well-maintained habitats. Here’s a closer look at what makes Khao Kheow Open Zoo a must-visit attraction.
Atmosphere and Layout The zoo is beautifully designed, with spacious enclosures that mimic the natural habitats of the animals. The lush greenery and well-kept paths make for a pleasant and relaxing stroll. The atmosphere is both educational and entertaining, offering plenty of opportunities for close encounters with wildlife.
All-in-One Park Experience Khao Kheow Open Zoo is more than just a zoo; it’s an all-in-one park that includes a diverse range of birds, trees, plants, and many kinds of reptiles. The botanical aspects of the park add to its charm, making it a delightful place for nature lovers.
Animal Encounters and Exhibits The zoo boasts an impressive array of animals from around the world, including big cats, elephants, giraffes, and exotic birds. The exhibits are thoughtfully arranged, allowing visitors to observe the animals in settings that closely resemble their natural environments. Interactive experiences, such as feeding sessions and animal shows, add an extra layer of engagement and excitement. Be sure not to miss the shows, which are both entertaining and educational.
Tips for Visiting To make the most of your visit, it’s highly recommended to buy tickets online via Clook. This not only saves time but often provides discounts compared to on-site purchases. Arriving as early as possible is also advisable, as the zoo can get quite busy later in the day. Early arrivals can enjoy a more peaceful experience and have more time to explore the extensive grounds.
Getting Around For a comfortable and efficient visit, consider renting a private golf cart. The zoo is vast, and waiting for the shuttle bus can be tiring and time-consuming. A golf cart allows you to navigate the zoo at your own pace, ensuring you don’t miss any of the highlights and can spend more time with the animals.
Amenities and Food Options There is a 7-Eleven conveniently located at the entrance inside the zoo, where you can buy food and essentials. Additionally, local shops are scattered throughout the zoo, offering snacks, drinks, and souvenirs.
Overall Experience Khao Kheow Open Zoo is a fantastic destination that offers a perfect blend of adventure and education. Read moreWhen I made a plan to go see Moo Deng at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, one thing I kept in mind was I don't want to be crowded by tourists and Moo Deng's fans. Then I saw an opportunity when an admin of Moo Deng's page (Khamoo and the Gang) recommended about booking a room at Khao Kheow Zoo Training Center so we can go see Moo Deng early in the morning which will be less crowded because the zoo is still closed (it was a brilliant idea ever!)
After I booked a dome tent at the training center which of course I will post about it later, I spotted a post about a night zoo at Khao Kheow Open Zoo's Page. They have this activity only on Friday-Sunday and since I will be there on Sunday I thought why not?!? so I sent a message to make a reservation, paid for a night zoo fee, and here we are...
The Night Zoo will be started at 07.00 PM but you have to go check in at 06.00-06.40 PM first. BUT if you arrive early or before 06.00 PM, you have to pay for a normal zoo fee because the zoo isn't closed yet (it's closed around 05.00 PM.) If I would recommend, I think booking a room is the best option because the room price is included a zoo fee for 2 days so even if you arrive early (because you have to check in for the room at 01.00 PM), you don't have to pay for any fees. Anyway, the fee for the Night Zoo isn't included in the room price though please be aware of that :)
When it's time for the night zoo, the zoo will have their trams and tour guides provided for tourists so you are going to be educated about nocturnal animals through the trip around the zoo. I was very impressed because we didn't have a chance to see some animals acting actively in broad daylight but they are more active at night... except a lion and a lioness though they slept both time we went see them, LOL.
So yeah, I really want to recommend the night zoo to anyone who is interesting in nocturnal animals especially a family with a child or children....
Read moreLocated in Si Racha District of Thailand, about 1.5 hours drive from Pattaya, is Khao Kheow Open Zoo. It is a massive jungle like place, deep inside the forests, and is accessible by road. This is an open zoo wherein tour buses make non-stop rounds of enclosures with animals. From the start point, you can choose to make rounds of the zoo and stop for clicking pictures with the animals. There are elephants, storks, bears, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, deers, ostriches, wildebeasts, big cats like jaguars, lions, tigers, cheetah and panthers. The whole zoo has a dedicated map with which you can navigate around. There are separate enclosures for all these animals, one unique being an enclosure for a lion and a bear. They were best friends.
There are several shops and cafes inside the zoo to keep yourself well fed. You can also drive your personal car around when you are here. It is much better than the Open tour buses, since they don't stop anywhere and you might miss a lot. Many enclosures can be reached only by foot, like the monkey ones. There are penguins as well who do a parade at around 2:30 p.m. and the storks do a flying parade at about 2:00 p.m. So make sure you are there in time for these shows. The highlight of the zoo is the Flight of the Gibbon zip-lining adventure. It is an elaborate zip-lining experience like none other. You go zip-zap-zoom across the forests and the experience is something out of this world. Priced very steeply at around 3500 THB per person.
Towards the end of the zoo, there is a big cat complex, that houses all the big cats. So you can see and adore the members of the cat family, all the smaller as well as the bigger ones.
This is an ideal place for kids and adults alike. You can feed any animal you want for 20 THB. What I felt was, the animals were not fed properly. They are always hungry to some sorts. A complete day outing...
