ตลาดน้ำวัดเหนือ — Attraction in Kanchanaburi Province

This place was absolutely fantastic! It was a short stroll from the jeath museum and the Main Street with massage places and other usual businesses: once you see the huge mural of Kanchanaburi you know you are on the right track headed there. My friend and I wanted to check out different night markets on our five day visit there and this night market is only open every Friday. We were starving from visiting Nakom Pathom for the day and decided to sample as much local street food as we could from the stalls. Everything was perfect. Food at affordable prices. My friend and I bought many small bites from sweet desserts to savoury finger foods and barbecued meat on a stick which was the main highlight that we enjoyed eating. There were cheap clothes and shoes and accessories also on sale at this night market. Zero tourists in sight which is the best.

I really love it here. It’s not a big or fancy market, and nothing particularly special at first glance—but that’s exactly what makes it charming. It feels very local, with people coming out on Friday evenings to eat, shop, and enjoy simple community activities. It’s not a floating market like the name suggests, but it’s set along the river next to the temple—you can park at the temple and just walk in.

Lors de notre voyage en Thaïlande, nous avons eu la chance de tomber sur un petit marché local, un véritable joyau caché loin des foules touristiques. Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été enveloppés par une ambiance chaleureuse et animée, où les couleurs vives des étals se mêlaient aux délicieuses effluves des plats en préparation.

Une explosion de saveurs avec la street food thaïlandaise Impossible de visiter un marché thaïlandais sans goûter à sa nourriture de rue, et nous n’avons pas été déçus ! Entre les brochettes de viande grillée, les pad thaï fraîchement sautés, les mangues juteuses accompagnées de sticky rice et les petites crêpes thaïlandaises (khanom buang), chaque bouchée était une explosion de saveurs. Nous avons même tenté les célèbres insectes grillés, une expérience surprenante mais à tester au moins une fois !

Un accueil chaleureux et une atmosphère conviviale Ce qui nous a marqués, au-delà de la gastronomie, c’est l’accueil des habitants. Les vendeurs, toujours souriants et curieux, nous ont fait découvrir leurs spécialités avec plaisir et bienveillance. En tant que touristes, nous nous sommes sentis accueillis comme des invités, et non comme de simples visiteurs.

Un lieu à ne pas manquer Ce marché a été l’un de nos moments coups de cœur en Thaïlande. Loin des grandes attractions touristiques, il offre une expérience authentique, parfaite pour découvrir la vraie culture thaïlandaise à travers sa cuisine et ses habitants.
