We were actually quite disappointed with our meal at Zab Zab, especially after reading so many good reviews. We ate there on a Sunday evening, and it was packed with about 75% locals and 25% tourists — typically a very good sign. The food was very reasonably price at 60-100B for most dishes. Our disappointment was in the quality and portions of the food (although service wasn’t great either - understandable given how busy it was). The portions were very small compared to the standards we’ve seen across most of Thailand (which meant that the 70B curry all of a sudden seemed pricey by comparison). And the flavor was subpar and watered down — although our curry was tasty, the kale and crispy pork was very bland and watery, and the spicy pork salad wasn’t spicy at all, and the sticky rice was just mush served in a plastic bag. It’s not that the food was bad, it’s just that it was average at best and a huge let down given the popularity of the place. Given the miss on flavor and the fact that two of us left hungry after 3 dishes and 2 rice plates, we will not be returning and will certainly look for other finds in Kanchanaburi. Although we are left wondering if we’d have received better quality and portions if we’d have come at a...
Read moreZap Zap (dinner) We found this place by coincidence when walking from our guesthouse to the night market and noticed that it was packed full with Thai customers. So we gave it a try the next day, which was a Sunday night and still busy, but not quite as full as the night before.
We tried 4 dishes. Based on the reviews we could not pass on the chicken wings and the fried papaya salad. We also tried Seafood Pad Thai, and Beef Larb (a first for us, normally larb is made with chicken or pork). All dishes were good, with the fried papaya salad being our favourite. The wings second, and the larb lowest on the scale - it was quite chewy actually… maybe it was an old water buffalo that wasn’t fit for the fields anymore?
Prices are average for Thailand and service was good. They have an English menu too, although it’s a bit less comprehensive as the Thai language one, good to have your Google...
Read moreThis restaurant is a hidden gem in kanchanaburi near the River Kwai. Given the number of tourists who pass this area, it's very difficult to find this restaurant and hopefully you see this Google review and choose this place.
Food: We ordered the Tom yum, Papaya salad with salted egg, larb and a couple of curries that I can't remember. I would say this place was as good as some of the Michelin restaurants that I went to. The food was very well balanced.
Prices: We were very hungry when we came in and ordered 5-6 dishes. When we got the bill we were pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the entire bill was!
Service: Service was standard. The servers are very friendly.
This restaurant was mostly filled with locals which is a great sign.. In all I was highly recommend this restaurant for perfectly balanced...
