Our tour guide drop us at a pier (tat far from the Amphawa market) to take the long tail boat but to our shock they want to charge us 2000 bath per person!! Even my 4 years old and 7 years old charged the same. They even try to sell us packages to the Chang Puak Camp - to ride elephant which a total scam and animal cruelty!!
Believed all of them in this joint scam together! We turn down the long tail boat riding and went back to the van then they chase us and ask us how much we willing to pay. I read somewhere the shared long tail boat only cost 50bath per person for 45 min.. so please be aware! Now I also suspecting the tour guide might be in the same boat as them too!
Please do check and be vigilant! Same goes to the personal transport that engage thru FB - we paid 2,800bath thru and flow Bangkok to Amphawa to visit the Railway station, floating market and so called Elephant Camp but the activities all cost us ridiculous pricing! Even lunch he bring us to a restaurant that even more expensive than the restaurant we go in Bangkok City!
As we there with young children we have no choice but to engage with some activities.. but overall experience not great and a waste of money - we spend USD230 for a family of 4!!
Please be specific and clear with the transport/guide that you decided to engage!
Nothing great about Amphawa Floating Market and you can get better/same...
Read moreWant to enjoy having local foods and canal touring? Amphawa is one of the best place for that! This market is located about 30 - 45 minutes to the west from Khoa-sarn Rd., Bangkok. We arrived here around 2.30 pm, vendors just started opening their shops. Amphawa is still a bit quiet compared with the time we came here before the pandemic started. In this place, there are many shops that offer yummy dishes and plates such as noodles, grilled squids, Mussels pickle, mackerel, BBQ, fish cakes, meatballs,,etc. Also there are a lot of desserts which have coconut to be its main ingredient. I like cool coconut water, it was refreshing me. Since, it’s warm afternoon. And I really love to have fresh pomelo which I knew that the pomelo is the best in this area. This fruit was a little sweet and slightly sour, but juicy. That’s I prefer. If you never have one, pls try. And there are some canal tours, if someone like to enjoy seeing houses, folks and temples along the canal. I didn’t take one. I’m scared of traveling on a boat. After all, definitely Amphawa is the good place to spend time with family and friend, and to see, eat, shop and take photos. I will comeback when I...
Read moreThis review is mainly about getting to the market:
First, get yourself to Southern Bus Terminal. It's also known as Sai Tai Mai. A metered taxi from Silom area cost about 200B.
At the bus terminal, walk towards the back section of the ground floor and find terminal 10 as pictured. The terminal numbers are on orange colored signs.
Buy a ticket from booth #996 that's located at terminal 10. It's 70B per person. There's no true schedule. The mini van leaves once all seats are sold but the lady said on weekends it's about every 20 minutes.
The mini van seats 11 but is quite tight. Get there early to get yourself a good seat. The last row is very uncomfortable since they just added seating to the trunk of the van and the leg space is used up by the wheels. Also the air conditioning doesn't reach the back.
The ride takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. After arriving, buy your return tickets right away. The van stops at its own ticket booth. Return tickets do sell out so buy it right away. Again, arrive 20 min early to get a good seat.
The market itself: Bathrooms cost 5B so save your coins. They're quite...
